yeah i finally got through it and did not jive with it at all. its so poppy without being memorable at all. gonna likely go down as my least favorite effort from this band which sucks.

I kinda liked this? Obv not even close to Illuminate or anything but this is mostly what I look for in easy-to-listen-to pop music these days. Sunlight and Way You Want It are choice

They removed ‘Illuminate’ from Apple Music a few days ago. I wonder if that’s due to the constant comparisons and failed expectations to live up to that album. A couple of songs on their currant record have grown on me but it’s a tremendous step down from their past output.

They didn’t remove their most-loved album from streaming because they don’t like people comparing their new work to it.

    It’s probably a licensing thing.

The timing just seemed odd to me. I mean it’s been available for the past few years. I listened to it multiple times the past few weeks and then a few days after the new album is up Illuminate came up as unavailable.

The timing is unfortunate but seems like these things happen somewhat frequently; I’m sure it’ll be up soon.

In the meantime Liquor is holding up just fine O:-)

FWIW Illuminate is currently available on Spotify in the US, don't know if it went down at some point, but it's for sure a licensing thing.

Still really digging Liquor, probably my third favorite from them right now. It does have a bit of a The Cinema vibe, but I think it's better executed than either of those albums.

Yeah, I really don’t know how all of the licensing stuff works. I’ve read up on in a bit and that definitely makes sense. I was just wrongly making an assumption.

On a positive note, I’m really starting to like Liquor. I wasn’t blown away on first listen but I keep going back to it and enjoying it more with each listen. I think I’ll come to love this album just as I have everything they’ve done. Always been one of my favorite bands.

Saw them tonight in philly. Some really great and some subpar set list choices but overall they sounded great. Definitely the happiest I’ve seen leighton appear on stage.

Hey man, I know this post is old but is this still available?

Not trying to revive a dead thread either, but has there been any update from Leighton or Lydia? They announced they were touring, seemed super stoked about it, then cancelled. Haven't heard anything.

Hope those guys are all doing well.

Nothing has been posted. I follow Leighton and the other two guys on Instagram and they haven't mentioned anything. Matt Keller still has that he's a part of Lydia on his Instagram profile so that's something. If they were done, I doubt they would post anything anyway. When Craig then Justin left the band, nothing was ever said then either

    No Fun. Not Ever.

To my knowledge, the only time that a member leaving was mentioned was when Steve left, and that's because he actually made a statement for it.

I literally have liked everything he has done with the exception of that. Give me three songs to check out again and I’ll give you a go.

I adore some of the songs on this album but most don’t do it for me.

Also, I can’t believe a lot of people in this thread weren’t fans of Run Wild. I prefer that to Liquor or Devil

I think I liked RW as much as Devil and maybe a smidge more. It’s been a while though.

I think every song on RW is great where as I can’t stand runaway or back to bed on Devil. Now I know is just filler to me. With that said, Wish You Well and Do You Remember? are two of my favorite songs by them.

I honestly just don’t think Leighton can sing those summery songs from Devil live that well. I saw them twice during that era and it was rough. Kind of runnier those songs for me

Sunlight, red lights, and way out are my top 3. I think this brand of artsy pop works really well for them.

I agreed with a lot of the critiques of liquor when it came out but I do think it has some of their best songs, like the 3 I listed above. Each of the last 3 records has some very high highs and very low lows for me but I love each.
Here’s how I think of each:
Liquor: most consistent, highest floor, a bit bland and same-y (hence the consistency), sunlight maybe a top 5 Lydia song
RW: not as cohesive but some great gems, sound in your dreams may be their best post-Illuminate song, paint my mind maybe the worst, too much cinema influence where it doesn’t seem to belong (e.g. I hate how when it gets dark out starts out cool and moody and then turns full on happy bouncy vibe)
Devil: well executed, appreciate its summer vision way more than I used to, but it’s just not a sound I seek out often

SIYD is a great track. Slower songs like that and “way out” are where Leighton really shines. Idk if it’s just me but I think his voice just sounds weird on Liquor. It like almost sounds fake or compressed or something.

I also hate all “yeah, yeah, yeahs”. Like each song has so few lyrics but there’s a ton of random words .

    Example:
Yeah well, give me all your coldest, give me all your coldest hour
    Baby, you're crazy, darling
    Yeah well
Baby, you're crazy, no, no no
    What if I'm crazy, darlin'?
Yeah, oh no, yeah well oh no

Like seriously? He’s done this the last few albums but on Liquor it just came to a head. It doesn’t sound like he’s even singing about anything.i almost can’t process how bad some of these lyrics are. It’s a shame because I really enjoy his voice live. My girlfriend and I went to that acoustic/string tour and it was one of my favorite shows ever.

The decline in lyrics even compared to PIG is staggering
