He selects a song that doesn’t sound at all anxious. It is surprisingly loose after ILWYS’s gleaming 80s pop architecture: all spilling piano chords, trumpet solos and vocals from the London Gospel Community Choir. It is about forgiving and mending himself. “I’m scared of the world,” he says. “I’m not scared of myself any more.”

Sparkling with Springsteen-like festivity, It’s Not Living If It’s Not With You is about addiction: “Collapse my veins wearing beautiful shoes,” Healy sings. There is a mellow song about rehab and he reckons their “Drake-y” tropical house experiment will be their biggest hit.

The night before, Healy saw James Taylor live and marvelled at the simplicity of his enduring hits. One lounge jazz number on the album is exactly that kind of love song, about passing the age where young people once settled down, and loosely fits the album’s theme of how the internet affects relationships, says Healy.

 

This is cool. Seems like p4k and I are on the same page when it comes to this band.

Really enjoyed but haven't really loved their past work but totally in love with the new singles.

 

The guitar tone during the chorus is so damn good. Almost sounds like some type of brass instrument.

Yeah this pretty much confirms that they are recording here:

The only other recording studio big/good enough for them around here works on metal records like Napalm Death, whereas this has done The Prodigy amongst others. It's literally like a 15 minute drive away.

PS: The "location" page does a good job of making the area look good.

 

Yup. Seems like they're finally going to get the critical acclaim that they were hoping for.

Also, album sounds all over the fucking place and I'm so excited.

I'm hyped for the lounge jazz track.

 

Conversely, after the Arctic Monkeys album, I am not.

 

Springsteen vibes are always welcome, but they can do no wrong. So happy for them, I love how many publications have slowly come around to them. The NME naming them the years worst band and then next album the year's best band or best album was pretty amusing.

Hard to objectively disagree that its not at least a top 5 song. Its the song I always use as a rebuttal to the "oh, they're just a mainstream pop band"

Come January, when he walks out on stage, Healy knows he will have “a real smile” on his face. He will sing Give Yourself a Try’s first line and “forget that feeling of writing these things in real life” – not least because he won’t be able to hear himself over the screams.
