saw something this morning that showed that Leonard loses out on 80M if he becomes a restricted free agent from San Antonio next year. like, if he resigns with the Spurs they can offer 5 yr / 219M, if they trade him NOW the biggest he can sign next year is 4 yr / 159M and if he stays with the Spurs and becomes a free agent next year the max a team can offer is 4 yr / 139M.

depending on how pissed off the Spurs are about all this, keeping him this year and then letting him go (again, for nothing, which would make no sense for them) so he loses out on that money miiiiiiiight be something they toy around with.

 

I'll tell you it's a real double whammy when your favorite team passes on the best prospect in the draft who also happens to fill a major position of need then that player proceeds to wear your actual first name on his chest for the next decade.
