Haha you've heard about Alden Ehrenreich right? And how this movie takes place before A New Hope, and Harrison Ford is 150 years old?

It would be Alden Ehrenreich in the cameo, not Harrison.

He'll probably get a very small cameo with like one line. Relax guys.

How does having someone who looks nothing like Harrsison Ford show up as Han Solo a few months before he is supposed to be Harrison Ford as Han Solo make sense?

Pretty disappointing to hear they are going back to inject more "fun" into the film. Like many of you had said, I'm hoping we don't get Marvel: Star Wars. While I wouldn't say the Marvel movies are bad, I grew tired of the formula very quick.

Do or do not, there is no try.

A New Hope did reshoots with less than six months to go before release.

I'm also not buying rumours that Disney don't like it or that they are worried about it. Maybe they are adding some more humour but I'd put money on that being to make it feel more Star Wars rather than a last ditch attempt to save the film, which is what these news outlets are making it sound like. Disney wouldn't have let it go this far before stepping in if it was that bad.

I do wish they would let it be very different to the saga films but I'll happily take it either way.

Han Solo cameo could be when he gets boarded by the Empire, which he mentions in A New Hope. Would be weird to see a different actor play him just before the events of ANH though - if it's done all though, I don't care.

    Things have changed.

It was actually perhaps the steal of the century. Only $4 billion for the entirety of Lucasfilm, when TFA made $2+ billion on its own? All hail the Mouse.

Then there's all the merchandise as well. I don't even want to add up the money I've spent on Star Wars t-shirts and pop figures in the past 12 months.

Han Solo is a fictional character man, they recast these roles all the time. I would prefer that there be no young Han Solo movie, but if they are going to do it, recasting the role is the only thing that makes sense. Harrison Ford is in his 70s, he can't pass for 30 anymore.

I would expect most of the original trilogy role would be recast at some point.

I don't get how that is a "steal." Are we all forgetting how much 4 billion is?

Disney paid what I believe is their third largest amount ever for a company on Lucasfilms, behind Marvel at 4.24 billion and Pixar at 7 billion. How is that cheap? that's more than companies like MGM got (1.5 billion). More recently, Legendary Entertainment was sold for 3.5 billion. So really, Lucasfilm, which was going nowhere fast and produced the lackluster prequels, I think was fairly sold. TFA being such a huge hit was an awesome success and done with the right people to work on the material with respect and creativity. Now they want to make sure these spin-off movies don't disappoint to keep that success going. One negatively received side movie this early going into a new long term movie universe could throw a lot of shade on future projects. Disney is just a machine with their business, can't knock the process.

I never said I am mad at him for being recast. I couldn't care less honestly. But it doesn't make sense in this context. He has been recast as a "younger" Han Solo. Therefore it makes no sense to have him show up in this movie when it takes place a mere few months prior to A New Hope...when Han Solo very obviously looks like Harrison Ford. It makes it incredibly difficult to suspend your disbelief. It also takes away from the idea of this being a stand alone movie.

You have big ass talking bug people and shit, but some new guy showing up months earlier than Ford's first appearance is making it hard to suspend disbelief?

Yeah because huge ass bug people makes sense within the world that has presented. Someone showing up a few months later looking like a completely new person has not ever been presented. We know that their is aliens, it's Star Wars, aliens makes sense. Characters looking like a completely brand new person doesn't.

I certainly hope you aren't mad at Han Solo for being recast, that would be weird.

Let me ask you something, were you able to wrap your head around when the character of Jennifer Parker went from looking like Claudia Wells in Back to the Future 1 to Elisabeth Shue in Back to the Future 2 and 3, when her appearances literally take place on the same day? Dumbledore looked like Richard Harris one year, and then the next year when all the kids come back to Hogwarts he looks like Michael Gambon. MAKES NO SENSE!!!!

I am trying to hone in on what exactly bothers you about this. Is it because they are saying it's a "younger" Han Solo but he would really be the same age as he was in the original trilogy? I think when they say they are casting a "younger" Han Solo they mean younger than the 70 year old man we saw in The Force Awakens. I don't think they ever intended to make a movie surrounding a 9 year old Han Solo or anything.

EDIT: I also want to point out that we don't even know if the Han Solo is the character they are filming scenes for during reshoots, I was just speculating.

    Noobie

Those characters are nowhere near as iconic as Harrison Ford as Han Solo. And I know this is a stupid point to make, but Dumbeldore, to most people, is just an old guy with long grey hair and a long beard.

also everyone knows an ewan mcgregor obi-wan movie would be awesome as opposed to a han solo *solo* movie.

To be honest I'd prefer they not touch the original trilogy characters, at least not for a while. I would much prefer a KOTOR movie (or trilogy) to any spin off they have announced so far. An Obi-Wan movie would be cool and all just because I love Ewan McGregor but I can't say that I would prefer it to a story about new characters.

Forecasts back in 2015 said that it would take Disney less than two years to recoup what they bought Lucasfilm for on Star Wars alone. They have another billion dollar selling film and series. In addition they have the absolutely MASSIVE Star Wars merchandising area. Also included in the 4b purchase was Industrial Light & Magic, which is regarded as one of the best CGI studios in the business, a fantastic sound design studio and an animation studio for TV and other animated studios. 4b is a lot but chump change for what Disney got and what Disney have in liquid assets. It was a steal, a well calculated steal that will make Disney a lot of bank.

What lucasfilm were producing prior has absolutely no relevance on the revenue potential they have.
