Borderlands servers are dog shit on PS4 as is GTA Onlines.

 

Are GTA's still bad? I haven't played online since shortly after it came out on PS4 and never knew for sure if it was just really awful servers or if it was overloaded from so many people playing right when it came out.

 

I'm always getting disconnected when I try.

 

just got a vita, so I'm playing Persona 4 Golden, Jet Set Radio, Hitman GO, Muramasa Rebirth and some other stuff. PS+ offerings this month are pretty sad, but Vita Island's harbor has been deserted and sad for far too long anyway...what's new...

otherwise, on console I'm mostly playing Destiny and Overwatch. I could always use new friends! PSN: boonzy78

 

So crazy how Cd Projekt Red completely changed The Witcher's UI. Took me awhile to get use to (after 100's of hours with the old one) but I love it. It still blows me away how much work they put into a game after it's release (especially considering the original package was great)

 

So happy to see how many people still play this. My mate just gave it a purchase roughly a week ago and is still picking up the basics, but we played doubles the other day and it was insane.



Excuse the iPod quality - I was listening to music at the time and it's all I had on me. I was scoring goals from everywhere, making some crucial saves in overtime, it was probably the best game I've played. Great fun.

 

I haven't owned a basketball game since NBA Live 06 lol

Stoked on this PSN lineup though. I'm glad I didn't buy Gone Home a couple months back.

 

Goat Simulator is currently free on Xbox and man I'm having a ball with it

 

Yeah, I had a few hours of fun with Goat Stimulator.

 

The comments in this is really fucking disgusting and if anything, it's an example of just how bad the problem of homophobia is in gaming. For context, a shitty dev was giving away free Steam keys for their bad game. A pro-LGTB gamer asked for one but the dev told her that they don't support gay rights and that she should go fuck herself basically.

Like I'm shaking right now, I literally was told that I was being intolerant, as a queer person no less, for telling someone that he was being a bigot. Like what the fuck? Gaming, I love you but you're bringing me down.

 

Nice Guys tm are the worst sect of gaming.

 

Like for real, there's a dude in there who's going on about "Pro-LGBT radicals" and people are fucking agreeing with him. Just no, I can't. I can't put up with that. I'm frankly really disgusted at Destructoid overall for allowing that kind of shit to even be posted, I don't even want to read their site anymore because of it.

 

I follow, and love a lot of different things, and gaming is absolutely the one whose culture I avoid like the plague and refuse to go anywhere near discussions online, unless it's a subforum on a place like here, where the purpose of the site isn't gaming first and foremost.

I'm sure there are some legitimately good gaming communities out there, but man, they're few and far between.

 

I'd argue that sexism is a bigger problem in gaming but homophobia is just as bad. Like yeah, I totally get that a good portion of the community are straight white dudes who's never really been discriminated against but come on, it doesn't take that much to realize that saying things like that is totally shitty. I just in awe, like to be told that I need to not be intolerant of hate speech is something to behold. Like I'm supposed to be queer Jesus and just be okay with people saying things like that. Ugh, I just need to get away from that.

 

At this point, the "stop being intolerant of my intolerance" rebuttal is just about the dumbest argument out there, and just a complete blanket statement for "stop calling me racist/sexist/homophobic." It's like bigots just throw back the same argument people use against them without having the first clue as to why people are saying that in the first place. They'd realize it completely falls apart coming from their side with about 5 seconds of critical thinking.

At the very least, I love that I have a place like this to discuss things and not have to deal with shit like that. You guys are the real MVPs.

 

Video game culture is the absolute worst. Echoing the sentiment that this is the best place to discuss them.

 

If anything, this made me realize that fighting against the sexism, racism (feel bad I forgot about that), and homophobia in gaming culture is a fight worth fighting for. Like speaking for myself, gaming was something I've had a lifelong connection with. It's a culture that should be inclusive and open to anybody to join. To have people like those in that comment section talk down to people and make them feel displaced or that they should toe a line is wrong and frankly, I'm over it.

 

It's especially sad considering a lot of people doing the gatekeeping (overwhelmingly toward women) use the "we were excluded and shunned our whole lives" and then turn around and do the same thing now that they're adults. You'd think they'd be the first ones to want to accept people into the thing they like that's now more popular than ever.

But I guess they're going into it with the same mindset as people who automatically turn on musicians as soon as they sign with a bigger label or change their sound.

 

The problem is that gatekeepers are a huge part of the community. But let's not just blame the community, I'd side plenty of blame towards the developers and publishers too. Their unwillingness to let women, LGBT, or POC be main characters or be active elements in gaming helped breed this. It's a toxic combo and one that's very hard to take on. There really needs to be a platform for people to speak out and address these issues. Chorus has the right idea with eliminating comment on articles and I think there needs to be a similar platform for this medium.
