Yeah their biggest singles are just their most radio ready shit, for obvious reasons, but definitely not their best

 

A lot of those singles are still incredible, though. "The One I Love" and "Losing My Religion" were prime 90s radio rock.

Very very good female fronted indie rock band on Saddle Creek that put out one of the best records last year!

 

Perhaps only unpopular with a certain section of this websites userbase, but the neon pop punk era was the absolute worst and I'm glad it's fully dead in the water. Most of the bands were terrible and had zero talent musically or lyrically.

Also Waterparks are the worst band in modern pop-punk and they're trying to bring that awful style back. The sooner everyone mugs them off and lets them die on their ass due to the lead singer being a misogynistic, racist, fat-shaming piece of shit, the better.

I'd say I like Phoebe over Big Thief, but they both rule and "Mary" was one of my favorite songs last year. I didn't even know who Waterparks was until a news post about them the other day. Does that tool really spell his name Awsten? Randomly watched an acoustic set they just played on youtube, and he was insufferable with below mediocre music. If he wasn't so cocky and didn't dye his hair I guarantee his fanbase would be cut right in half.

 

You don’t have to compare bands music isn’t competition, and this is part of a larger issue where some people think only a few woman fronted musicians are allowed to exist at one time.

But anyway, big thief is amazing and everyone should check out their two records.

 

This is what annoyed me when Cardi B got big, and people kept writing that it was the end for Nicki Minaj, as if only two women can rap at the same time or some shit?

It's so stupid that there's some bullshit quota on how many women can make certain music to critical acclaim, and it's often the same with actors from ethnic minorities in films or TV. It's absolute bullshit.

 

I wasn't trying to be divisive with my post (I apologize). I'm a big Phoebe fan as well...I made the post because I think Big Thief have been massively overlooked and wanted to see what people thought in terms of a playful comparison (I was also jamming to Capacity on my ride home from work and might have to visit my 2017 AOTY rankings)
