we've seen the shadow of the axe before Supporter

Might be jumping the gun a bit, but the article for the tour announcement earlier this month along with the new single, basically confirms a new album this year.

Tokyo Police Club Announce 2018 North American Headline Tour - Dine Alone Records

Even more exciting news, Rob Schnapf is set to produce.

Force field was kind of a letdown for me. The two EPs were a lot of fun, but half of the tracks felt mediocre or forgettable. I have a lot of faith in Schnapf.

I hear the Oasis comparison. Wish they had the hint of punk attitude from Elephant Shell or Champ on some tracks. I get doing some different things and some I have liked. There’s just some I haven’t.

better than hercules. maybe i'm just burnt out on these guys but i'm not feeling either track at all. based on that article sounds like this might be their last one.

Yeah they’ve really lost whatever they had going

also didn't they say the exact same thing about the recording of forcefield? that their inspiration had fizzled out, they pushed through it, energized, not letting "the narrative" define them, etc.

maybe they should just end the fucking thing already

dont recall the press cycle for forcefield but how any band going through the motions could write argentina baffles me.

Argentina is one of their best songs. Top five.

These songs would be good songs from anyone else, but really blah coming from them because the reason I loved TPC was their quirkiness and offbeat lyrics and it seems like they've just abandoned that aspect of themselves.

I wasn’t huge on Hercules, but I like the new one!

Also Forcefield is a fantastic album.

    New songs are okay.

That said, I really really really miss TPC making music like they did on Elephant Shell and Champ.

It’s better than the other songs but is it just me or have they gotten really good at making short songs feel way too long?

I'm worried this album is gonna be average sadly.

The thing that bothers me is that, and I hate being one of those people, but this isn't why I listened to TPC in the first place if you know what I mean. I didn't listen to them because they were writing stuff that could easily be written by other "a dime a dozen" bands. It was because they had really quirky lyrics and catchy hooks that felt unique. This just is completely devoid of that.

It's a fine song, but it could have been anyone else.
