FUCKIN SAVAGES IN THAT FUCKIN BOX Prestigious

If they had tried to come back with someone else after that first breakup, it would have felt like blasphemy to me. Then Tom became nothing but detrimental to the band in every way. Quality, live performances, and activity. And I'm so over Tom's musical direction.

When Tom first left and they talked about making music with Skiba, I was cautious. Tom used to be my favorite of the three(though I was fans of all of them). Then he released that god awful solo album, and more of what was going on with blink behind the scenes came out. Over time my opinion on tom faltered, because I frankly realized he had gone insane and was stretching his talents way too thin. The second I heard BTD I was sold on Skiba being in blink. It's not the same, true, but that doesn't mean it isn't blink-182. I am hyped for this new rendition of blink, and while I have fond memories of when tom was on the band I have accepted that he doesn't want to be there and he was holding them back since the reunion.

Also I say this as someone who actually liked the majority of Neighborhoods and DeD

It'd be crazy to want him to remain in the band, it's clear he's moved in a different direction than what Mark and Travis want and the music they produced under those circumstances was pretty awful. I just think that, during the time blink operated as more of a cohesive unit, he had a unique enough songwriting/vocal/playing style to consider him an essential element to the group

You're saying that through 2003 Tom was essential to the band and I think 100% of the people here agree with that. That's an obvious statement. Post-2003 the songs suffered and whatever percentage this blink is (I'm personally all in on Skiba in the band but Alkaline Trio has always been my favorite band) I easily like Bored To Death way more than any single song on the last two releases. Like not even close.

People whining saying "blink is ded guys no Tom no blink :tear:" are the same people who would say "blink is ded because there still isn't an album wow I hate Tom :tear:" if he were still in the band at this point. The fan base for this band act like spoiled children at times, man. I'm perfectly fine with the way things are now. Yeah, Tom's gone but absolutely nothing can be done about it. I've accepted that.

As do I, but I think it sounds more like a Good Mourning/Crimson and after style Alk3 song than I do an any-era Blink song

This song reminds me way too much of Stay Together For The Kids for me to agree with that at all. Only Skiba/Trio influence I find is Skiba's tendency to keep the second verse the same as the first but change up some words.

I agree. And I actually, as I said, liked a lot neighborhoods and DED. I love natives, after midnight, even if she falls is my fiancé'S favorite song because it speaks to her to the point she made a painting of a frozen steel heart with the lyrics around it. Hearts all gone, dogs eating dogs, Boxing Day, when I was young, and so on. Really the only songs I don't like are fighting the gravity, this is home, and pretty little girl.

That being said, I got bored to death(hue hue hue) of up all night to where I still usually skip over that song. BTD on the other hand not so much, it easily holds its own.

Idk, I fell off with Alk3 after From Here... when I felt there was a pretty huge songwriting/tonal shift, and that's what I hear with this song. It's fine, I don't find myself coming back to it though. I'm hopeful for the riffs and old school style the band continues to allude to, hopefully the album can capture some of the tone of Dude Ranch or Goddamnit

I think that would be great, although I'm hoping for more along the lines of TOYPJ meets Untitled

For me, Tom is the most valuable and unique part of blink-182. People may dislike it, but even in his current state he has an iconic voice and songwriting style that's influenced so many different bands. And now that's gone. Because with him blink would have always been part time, and I completely respect Mark and Travis for doing what they did. But that unique and special part of blink, for me, is now gone. Luckily I love Matt, and of course I love Mark and Travis, so I'm still very excited about the band. But of course it's different. And that's why I'd always be happy for Tom to come back into the loop.

  13. If Blink-182 was Tom's top priority (and maybe even his only project) and he put all of his creativity and heart into it while still being open for collaboration/compromising. then I would definitely accept Tom back, assuming the Skiba-182 album isn't what we are all hoping it'll be.

If the Skiba-182 album is as amazing as we are all hoping it'll be, then good riddance, Tom! haha.

I personally never want to see Tom back for anything more than a one-off show and not even sure I want that. I would never believe that his heart was in it or he truly liked being there.

To me, Tom is like a High School friend that you grew apart from. You don't hate the guy, you cherish the memories you have with them, but the person that you loved is gone. Some people grow more wise and mature but stay similar to who they have always been and some people just turn into completely different people. Tom is one of those people. The Tom we loved is never coming back.

  17. So the new Kerrang issue comes out tomorrow. Here's a little blurb Kerrang wrote up on their site teasing about it:

"YOU GET A WORLD EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH BLINK-182!
Finally, after the fallout comes the long-awaited return with Travis Barker, Mark Hoppus and Matt Skiba preparing to unleash California – blink-182‘s first album in five years. We put on our pants and jacket to go inside blink’s rehearsal space and inside their new album. Everything you need to know about the pop-punk comeback of the year is here. They say, “We’ve made one of the best albums in our history…” – and that’s just for starters!"

Still waiting to hear the album to judge anything. I love Blink, I love Neighborhoods and DED, Bored to Death is solid, waiting for more opinions

this makes me so freaking sad. :-| The styles of the first AVA album and the +44 album combined...one can only imagine...and I'm sure this "what could have been"-scenario has already been talked to death on this forum :brokenheart:

Tom's songwriting has been subpar for a long time now, hardly iconic.

I love Tom and would prefer if he was still in the band BUT the fact is he doesn't want to (or actually can't) make that kind of music anymore and I'd rather they didn't even try rather than putting out sub par material.

I'm very excited for the new album but it's going to be very very weird for me treating it as a blink album without him.
