I always cringe when someone on social media asks for new podcasts to listen to and there are several dudes that chime in and say The Joe Rogan Podcast or Rubin Report.

  7. I was listening to a podcast I really like a while ago and someone said "Ben Shapiro" ... I tried to be nice and point out why I thought it was a really bad idea to give that dude a platform on Twitter, and it ... didn't go great.

I always want to explain why they shouldn't, but I fear the dogpile that might come from that. So I just try to swerve and say "What I think you'd really like is (Insert podcast, most likely "The Moth")..."

Hahaha. Sometimes I do, except for the people that I think might not be into the super crude aspects of it.

More conversation from rich, white men coming together for a meal:

"Hey can you believe the radical left think women and poc still face structural barriers in America? I mean we're rich because we worked hard right?"

"The gender wage gap is a myth. If you just compare this one position where this one woman made just as much as a man you can see its about being assertive and..."

"I was just talking with Ted Nugent about responsible gun ownership and good guys with guns protecting... *breaking news in the background on the latest mass shooting* ..."

"Isn't this free exchange of ideas so productive?"

I listen to a mix of everything: Pod Save America, Pod Save The World, With Friends Like These, Lovett or Leave It, Crooked Conversations, Joe Rogan, Ben Shapiro, Dave Rubin, David Axelrod (those are just the political ones) and I find myself agreeing with different topics on both sides. Yeah I think Shapiro is pretty wacko/nutty, but I don’t get the hate for Rogan or Rubin honestly, they’ve never come off as aggressive or evil in any way, and they seem like they’re more willing to have conversations with ppl who have different opinions compared to the more new liberal media outlets. Funny thing is I didn’t listen to Rubin or Shapiro until finally one day after hearing so much about how awful and terrible people they were (mostly from Crooked media), and then found myself agreeing with some of their stances and approaches on certain issues. Listening to different views constantly has made me realize Just how many powerful voices are out there on both sides who spew hate and use fear to push agendas and it’s scary how easy and effective technology has made it for these outlets to seclude and divide groups of people, and to vilify opposers or even people who may question. Very strange times.

I think "bothsidesing" fails to address things like social power structures and the oppressed vs the oppressor.

The effect is the oppressor or reactionary ideologies which already has the upper hand... well... keeping the upper hand.

Joe Rogan has had a Nazi on his podcast before, I don't understand how one can justify that

Joe Rogan had Ted Nugent on the other day to talk about how evil people are who want gun control on the same day as the capital news shooting, in fact the news broke while they were chatting. It was an exaggerated example of something he does often, he gives racists and bigots 3 hour platforms to come off as reasonable while much more rarely having on guests that share a liberal or left viewpoint. And Dave Rubin is just fucking awful in every way, even arguing currently that there isn't structural racism in America.

I'm sure there are more educated people in here that already knew this, but I didn't.
