I can't really cast judgement without full knowledge of the situation. If the parents were right there and just weren't looking directly at the child, there's no good reason for him being able to just slip between the bars or whatever. That's a design problem. If the parents were not near the child or not watching, that's on them.... But also still probably a design problem

So I have little to no knowledge on this incident, did the kid actually try to climb into the enclosure, and then fall?

 

I blame Hollywood.

I demand a boycott of The Jungle Book and Tarzan.

I've never cried so hard as I did on my honeymoon at the Puerto Vallarta zoo. Horrible horrible conditions and treatment and a god damn nightmare. The amount of animals with zoochosis slamming their heads against the glass or gate was so disturbing.

 

Since the star whackers thing he's in big trouble with customs over sneaking in and out of Canada.

I feel like a bad person bc I think the kid living was more important than the gorilla. This is apparently not the popular opinion.

 

To be clear I don't think they should have let the kid die, I just think there were other ways of going about it instead of just shooting the gorilla.

 

I only read one article about this this morning after seeing tons of jokes about it last night. I'm not sure how much danger the child was in but I agree with you

 

It's not that it's not the popular opinion, it's that the general consensus is that the zoo should have tranquilized the gorilla before outright killing him. His behavior was not aggressive, and he actually appeared to be trying to protect the little boy.

 

I mean yeah, people should care about the child's well being but it's something that shouldn't have happened and it could've been prevented, had his parents actually watched him like they're supposed to.

 

I can't stop listening to Perfume. Cannot wait to see them.

I was honestly shocked that they didn't try to tranquilize it instead of just straight up shooting it.

I saw the way the kid was drug a little bit at the most but it didn't look like he was getting hurt. I only saw a small clip though. I'd like to say shit happens but I feel like if it were my kid he never would have been able to climb in there in the 1st place.

 

Its so funny how it has worked out. I'll be listening to someone and google their tour schedule. I'm 4/4 with tours in NYC so far. And I just found out LITE is going to be here with TTNG! Did you ever get around to listening to them?

 

You can actually blame Hollywood for the tranquilizer "lie." Apparently when animals are tranquilized they actually go into panic and attack mode for a period of time before going under. They didn't want to risk the panic/attack mode injuring the child.

 

I listened to a little bit of TTNG, really dug it.

 

Fuck. That LITE song is so incredible. Can't believe I haven't listened to this band recently.

Does footage show the kid getting into the enclosure or what the parents were doing when it happened? If they were standing right there and they just fell through some bars, that's one thing and if course if they were actively doing something else while the kid intentionally climbed over that's another thing

 

Yeah no tranquilizer instantly puts an animal down. I think they should have at least tried to distract it and get in there to get the kid before taking the shot. But it just seems like right away they decided to shoot.

 

Oh I haven't checked that out, I'll do so here in a bit.

 

What I want to know is how tf is this zoo designed such that a toddler was able to get into an animal's pen. I'm suspicious of zoos as is but that is like... Design 101? Don't make your pens capable of being infiltrated by a human who only just learned not to shit their pants like a year ago?
