  1. I don't really understand the whole "Spurs aren't in any kind of hurry" talk. If they get a monster offer they should take it. The longer they wait (if it goes into the season) the less valuable he becomes because of his contract. Also, if they deal him now they'll be able to approach free agency with a better idea of what they need. He has told them he wants to leave. Let the teams bid away.

Until LeBron signs with them next week heh. That would be an epic ECF

  4. The only urgency in these scenarios is coming from LA. They will (likely) strike out on LeBron if they can’t land Kawhi. It seems like they’ve already struck out on Paul George for at least another year or two.

I think Boston is interested but not nearly as much as LA. And Boston being in the equation can almost force LA to give up more.

I would love to be a fly on the wall in that room when the Lakers try to offer up Lonzo and Pop and RC just erupt into laughter

Not sure what 'Godfather' would imply. But you can assume it's probably Ingram/Kuzma/Hart/Picks

I saw someone suggest the Sixers proposal was something along the lines of Fultz/Saric/Covington/3 1sts (including the 2021 unprotected Heat pick) for Kawhi.

    That is silly.

Why would the Spurs be in a hurry to trade a guy that still has a year left on his contract? And by a hurry, I mean by tomorrow, which is when the Lakers are trying to get him by. Spurs don't need to match up with the Lakers timeline, and honestly, it'd be pretty stupid to. When Kyrie demaned a trade from the Cavs, the Cavs took nearly two months to get it done. You don't just trade away a top 5 talent in a week or so because another team is trying to meet a deadline.

The Lakers are willing to include former No. 2 overall pick Brandon Ingram and a future first-round pick in a package for Leonard, but the Spurs are seeking a far more complete haul of Lakers young players and future picks, league sources said.

Probably the funniest scenario is the one where the Lakers don’t get any of Lebron/PG/Kawhi, so I guess I’m rooting for that

The only thing better than the Celtics getting Kawhi is the Lakers getting fleeced for him.

  22. I think we’re getting into a bit of a semantics argument when we say “in a hurry”. I don’t think the Spurs should just take the first deal they see and run. Obviously that’d be dumb. But I believe right now they have the most leverage over the other teams pursuing Kawhi.

First, I was mainly speaking about the reports of SA wanting to be patient, and potentially wait until the season starts to do anything and hoping they can resign him. In that scenario, the longer they wait into the season the less they’ll get in return.

Second, the Lakers “deadline” is a great thing for them and they should lead all other teams into believing it’s also their deadline. It will drive the price up. If Philly, Boston and whoever else is calling know the Lakers are going all-in right now, they’re more likely to throw out their top offer right now as well. If the Spurs wait until after the free agency frenzy then they want have the intense, deadline-driven bidding war going. Not saying they wouldn’t get a good return but they would definitely lose some leverage.

As great as Kawhi is, he missed an entire season and is going into a contract year. They need to hold onto as much leverage as they can. It doesn’t mean rush and do something dumb. But now is the time to drive the price up.

A starting 5 of LeBron-George-Kawhi- convince him to sign team friendly deal Cousins-& a balloon would be real nice

  24. Everyone is saying the other max deal will be PG. What if Lebron really did send that text to KD and we get LBJ-KD-Kawhi?

  25. Then the league is fucked (again)
