Y’all, feel free to skip over this if you’d like because I’m going to get real personal and sappy for a moment, since i have a hard time talking about these things with the people i actually know:

I’ve been so depressed lately. For months now, really struggling with my mental health. Blowing off work, staying in bed, being irritable towards my partner and friends and family. I do a good amount of political work in Ohio, and I’ve just felt like it’s so futile (hellworld). Starting around three weeks ago, I began experiencing suicidal ideation for the first time since i was a teenager. Last week, i made an appointment with a therapist for this Friday, but that felt so far away and i just have felt so much dread around the idea of navigating daily life until then.

After the results in NY14, tonight is the best I’ve felt in months. I know it’s New York, i know it’s a district that is perhaps more readily amenable to left politics than southwestern Ohio, i know Crowley was a dipshit in a number of ways. But more than any of that, i know that activists won this victory. AOC understood her district, had actual ideological convictions, and found the people who would rally around them. They worked for the causes, not for the candidate - she ran for a community, not for herself. It’s giving me so much hope, this is the first night I’ve not felt miserable since, like, February. I know those of us who are politically active can feel burnt out, disillusioned, or made hopeless by it all. We’re all facing varying levels of threat and degradation day in and day out. But after a night like tonight, i hope y’all feel even a tenth of the positivity i feel right now. I’m looking forward to how this momentum can be built upon. I’m just looking forward in general. I’ll remember how this feels for a long while.

how do americans feel about maxine waters? most of the americans i've spoken to are centrist/neo-lib and universally dislike her, but from what I've seen she really seems like she supports the right things and uses her voice for good.

It's crazy to think that the majority of these are what should be basic opinions or rights for a forward thinking person these days, but they're not on the radar for people running the country. How depressing.
