Nah, just because it's maybe my least favorite SOTY song doesn't mean its a bad song or I consider it a mark on their discography lol

    1. What song(s) do you think has the catchiest chorus?
    - Stereo, Razorblades, Tonight We Fall (if were talking pure catchiness)

    2. What song(s) do you think has the best guitar riffs?
    - Is this my fate, The Virus, Five against the world, apathy is a deathwish

    3. Which album do you think has the best lyrical content?
    - Black Swan, for sure

    4. What song(s) do you think has the coolest drum parts?
    - Don't really have the time to figure this one out right now :)

    5. What's your favorite "slow" song?
    - Can I choose Sleep?

    6. Which album has the best overall sound/production?
    - Black Swan finds the perfect spot between clarity and intensity.

    7. How did you discover this band / what song got you into them?
    - Don't really remember, but I'm pretty sure I probably read a news story on AbsolutePunk in early 2003. I'm guessing the story was something about John Feldmann producing a new band. I clearly remember walking home to my car after getting my driver's license in april of 2003, listeing to two songs nonstop on my mini-disc player: Until the day I die, and Razorblades. It's the most vivid music memory I have, I think.

This was a really fun little quiz, @BlackwingE :)

    Nice pick!

Nice picks again! Apathy has a great riff!
Haha Sleep was my 2nd pick. I've always loved that song and how it builds. I always thought that'd transition really well live but they have never played it.

I’ve been to nearly a thousand shows in my lifetime lol. It was a good time. Dr Dre & Ed Lover from Yo! MTV Raps hosted the festival

That is....a lot of shows. Jelly.

I'm not one for regretting life but........I wish I would have gone to more.

I've said it before, but my biggest regret in life is showing up too late to Taste of Chaos in Germany (too much fun drinking in the hotelroom i guess) and missing SOTY, since they were first on the bill.

Edit: Second biggest regret: showing up too late to Taste of Chaos in London, and missing most of Saosin's set.

I'm seeing some kind of pattern here..

Taste of Chaos 2006 here in the states is my biggest regret too!

Three of my favorite bands on the bill, each touring on my favorite album, Thrice, SOTY and Atreyu.

I'll still be speaking of this regret years from now on my death bed lol.

EDIT: The tour also had Deftones, As I Lay Dying, Dredg, Silverstein and Funeral For A Friend.

Great, now I'm mad again just thinking about it.

Man, I miss the days when all those bands were big enough to tour Norway or other places in Europe that were within reasonable distance from me. I've seen Thrice three times in Norway.
(Or I guess you could say that I've seen them - thrice.B-))
First at a 2000-cap show, then at a 400-cap, then at a 100-cap. I guess they didn't bother anymore after that :crylaugh:.

Yeah, Thrice seemed to be going down in popularity from Beggars through M/M, but I think the success of Black Honey and that album has them playing bigger places again.

    To answer my own questions:

    1. What song(s) do you think has the catchiest chorus?
    - In the Shadows, Bang Bang and Ten Years Down

    2. What song(s) do you think has the best guitar riffs?
    - Tell Me (P.A.C.) and "Is This My Fate?" He Asked Them and Our Time Is Now

    3. Which album do you think has the best lyrical content?
    - The Black Swan. I love political lyrics in rock, and the ones on this album are just as important today as in 2008. An album about our inevitable global armageddon, what could be more serious than that.

    4. What song(s) do you think has the coolest drum parts?
    - To the Burial, The Virus and Our Time Is Now (that double bass in the bridge is sooo sweet).

    5. What's your favorite "slow" song?
    - Terrified. This song means a lot to me, it came out the same weekend my father's house burned down, and I remember listening to it several times a day because it made me feel both sad but also good at the same time. Also, I love the "marching" drums in the intro.

    6. Which album has the best overall sound/production?
    - The Black Swan. When hearing it for the first time I was like "omg yes, this is exactly how they should sound".

    7. How did you discover this band / what song got you into them?
    - Playing Donkey Konga 2 on Nintendo GameCube back in 2006. Sidewalks was on the European tracklist, and I just loved that song so much I had to play it over and over. It actually wasn't SOTY's original version, but a cover version (none of the songs were the originals). This was around the time we didn't have internet access on the island where I lived, so discovering music was a rare thing. But one weekend I stayed at my dad's and tapped into the phone line all night to access the internet and download songs I wanted, and Sidewalks was one of them. After doing a little research I also downloaded Until the Day I Die and Anthem of Our Dying Day and I loved those songs too. I didn't really like the rest of the songs on Page Avenue, but after downloading their first two albums I started listening a lot to Wake Up the Voiceless, and that song just hit me like no other song before it. They grew on me and became my number one favorite band during fall 2007, and has been ever since!

Now I Know This World Isn’t Spinning Just For Me Prestigious

    1. Angel In The Swamp

    2. Is This My Fate? or New War.

    3. Toss up between Black Swan and Wolves. Swan has some great politics but Wolves is the more personal lyrics.

    4. Bang Bang or The Virus(which I still say should have made the album.)

    5. Sidewalks, for personal reasons

    6. Black Swan

    7. Friend of mine had Sidewalks as her ringback tone. After hearing it enough times it got stuck in my head and I looked into the entire album.

Guys.....I made a video :-) I wanted to capture their insane live shows in one video and also used footage from every era, Page Ave to Wolves. I wanted to use an unreleased song and even though I wanted to go heavier like Virus or Truth Shall Set You Free, Turn Up the Radio flowed better as with a montage style.

Also....I couldn't help putting in that intro clip, its so badass.

    3. The Black Swan

    4. Dive Right In (love the double kick pattern)

    5. Sleep

Listened to Wolves again on my way into work this morning and the part of the solo on How Can We Go On where the double bass kicks into Dan screaming and the solo starts getting nuts, that whole part is maybe my favorite SOTY moment.

Was reading through those questions at the top of the page and that was fun. Lets get this thread going again.

If you had to pick 2 songs from each of their 5 albums to make a cd to show someone who has never heard of SOTY, which songs and order would you pick?

EDIT: Mine would probably look something like this, a good mix of all they do.

    1. How Can I Go On
    2. Stereo
    3. The Antidote
    4. Dive Right In
    5. Youth/I Swear I'm Okay
    6. Welcome to Our New War
    7. Anthem of Our Dying Day
    8. The Dream Is Over
    9. Won Threw Eight
    10. "Is This My Fate?" He Asked Them

Even if that was featured on a Natty Lite or Hamms commercial, it'd convince me to pick up a few 30 packs.
