Reading "Leviathan" by Paul Auster and this paragraph about the beginning of the Reagan era struck me as terrifyingly relevant to the current political climate. Bear in mind it was published in 1992:

Needless to say this book is resonating with me.

Starting to think the “unhinged obstructionist left” narrative is working.

Oh the irony in this quote:

“There’s not more energy on the left. There’s more hatred,” said state Rep. Toledo, the Tampa Republican who said her kids were bothered in an coffee shop. “I signed up for this. But my kids? I thought kids were off limits. Family is off limits. And it backfires when you attack families.”

I mean, he's got a base of ~35% that has yet to abandon him. Assuming that's 50% of the voting population, we're talking about close to 70% of the Republican Party. They've shifted their opinions on a dime about the NFL, Kanye West, John McCain, trade, our relationships with ally countries... the list goes on.

And we wonder why the GOP doesn't stand up to him. I'm beginning to think our best hope for 2020 is him being sick of the daily rigamarole of office and wanting to live his remaining years simply bragging instead of fighting all the time. Otherwise the whole ball game seems to be Independents and turnout.

Be kind; everyone is on their own journey.

Just got back from a week long family vacation to the Oregon Coast...managed to stay off of Twitter the ENTIRE time. What'd I miss? lol

Lol the fact that, at one time, someone could reasonably cover all the buzzed about stories that took place over a weeek in politics in one simple post is an astonishing thought.

Ocasio-Cortez seems legit. I’d love to see Crowley, who people see as the heir apparent to Pelosi, get beat in a primary as a shot across the bow.
