That’s not really what it is, there’s a lot more than just waiting for the vinyl that goes into these marketing strategies.

All bands should move to a month or shorter release window. Ship the vinyl when its done.
But get it out quick and right before a tour.

3 month cycles feel so long with all the short windows that other artists are doing.

In this genre* - Anthony Green just surprised release and I'd bet it sells just as well as his last one.

I know, I know. The pre-order campaign is essential.

depends though, I think a band like Thrice has the opportunity to have a massive first week. With a month or two to preorder it they will get those first week sales a lot higher than a surprise drop. I'd say they are expecting this to do better than the last one, and the last one was a number one Rock record. Just my two cents.. I wouldn't be surprised if our ticket sales end up coming with an album download as well.. another way bands can fudge first week numbers. I could be wrong and they don't care at all though.

I watched a live performance where Dustin again mentioned that we'd be hearing MORE new music very soon. This is the second time he's alluded to this.

So what would happen if they did this -
July 10th - Album Announcement and PreOrder
    July 17th - Second Single
Aug 10th - Album Release digital
    Mid August - Tour
    October 10th - Vinyl

Is that going to result in significantly different numbers than this?
July 10th - Album Announcement and PreOrder and second single
    Mid August - Tour
October 10th - Vinyl and Digital

I don't know enough about it, but I feel like THRICE has a big enough following to at least do a collapsed window.
Maybe the radio play actually drove a lot of their last record sales...?

If you are going for big first week numbers I think you’d want everything releases at the same time. Bc vinyl/cd orders don’t count until they are sent out.

Thats the piece I was missing.
I thought they counted pre-orders towards the sales numbers

They do as long as all of the preordered items are released on release day. I remember they went over this when
brand new dropped sci fi and they said they could hit the charts again when the cd and vinyl came out.

Since TBEITBN's release, what song has grown on you the most? Mine's 'Whistleblower.'

I still think Sept. 21st makes the most sense for release since it's a Friday and they're playing in San Diego that day. SoCal album release show just works.

Only flaw is that they're also playing the same venue the night before. So maybe the week before on the 14th?

Do records even leak anymore? AppleMusic has really blinded me from that side of music fandom.

Remember when Beggars leaked like 2 months in advance? That was so rough for them.
