Orphans is my least favorite song on American Slang.

I've never even considered the possibility that I could have a least favorite song on that album.

I forgot about We Did It When We Were Young cause I never listen to it. I think that one is the worst. Replace that with She Loves You and that would be perfect.

Agreed. I don’t care much for We Did It When We Were Young and I know this may be an unpopular opinion. She Loves You is definitely better and would fit great there!

Ya'll are nuts. We Did It When We Were Young is a gem. So is Orphans. So is everything on that album.

Its their worst album closer and for whatever reason bores me to death. I probably haven't listened to it in 5 years.

Lol, no worries. Maybe i'm a weird gaslight fan. After all, I like stray paper.

“We Did It While We Were Young” is definitely better than “Red at Night.”

We Did It When We Were Young is incredible and wraps up the themes of AS so well. Makes it their most cohesive album to me, lyrically.

I think it was the pitchfork review of that album that said the songs weren't just full of nostalgia, but were about the concept of nostalgia. American Slang is all about struggling to leave the past behind and We Did It When We Were Young is like a final, mournful goodbye to the past. "I don't feel you or recall, I'll put your bones out in the yard" never fails to give me chills.

Yep, Red at Night is better. And She Loves You is 100x better.

WDIWWWY is okay but by far my least favorite on Slang. Same reason I don't love about 3-4 songs on the Horrible Crowes album, just a little too sparse for me. But it's fine.

"She Loves You" is good, but it would not function well as a closing track to American Slang. "We Did It When We Were Young" is both a better song and a better encapsulation of the themes of that album.

After Spirit of Jazz (which I adore) it just seems like such a drastic buzzkill and halt to the album. Its just too slow, dull, I dunno. I just get bored to death.

LOL. I don't think ALL slow songs are boring. Red at Night, See You on The Other Side, National Anthem...those are all great slow song closers.

I love slow songs, just don’t love that one. It’s always been a bottom tier Gaslight track for me.

Give me Red At Night, Here’s Lookin’ At You Kid, Blue Jeans, Mae, National Anthem, She Loves You, Navesink Banks, etc. all day. I’ve just never got into WDIWWWY. I can’t place what about it doesn’t click, but it doesn’t.
