Starting to feel like Luka won’t actually be there at #4, so I could see Boston and LAC gunning for that #4 so they can flip it for Kawhi

kemba makes more sense on the cavs than he does on the bucks

  16. I’d be fine with #8 plus Clarkson

any trade for kemba should also involve a team taking the batum contract

  18. Cavs toss in Thompson, Hornets toss in Batum? I don’t know how that deal would look.

yeah that cap works out. the thompson contract is pretty bad too but not batum bad. and the cavs are in a shitty spot for trades in that they don’t have any expirings really

  20. Thompson is only for two more seasons. If Hornets pick at 8, 11 this year and then another high first next year, the Thompson and Mozgov contracts will be coming off the books at a time where those players are ready to takeover. And ideally they’d be able to use the cap to surround those guys with good players.

Of course that’s if Kupchak and MJ hit on the picks which we all know they won’t.

right, haha. it’s not awful. and it’s not like you would have had room for a max player anyways. just seems like the team is constantly postponing a rebuild that probably should have happened two years ago haha

should we merge this with the NBA draft thread or? Since this is technically still the 2017-18 thread

They actually somewhat do have expirings. Hill and Smith can be let go after next season. Hill would get $1 million and Smith would get $3.87 million for being cut. (The payouts are the only thing that counts against your cap for one year.) Korver can also be cut with a $3.44 million payment too, but not sure that happens. Not saying teams see that as great to take on, but not being fully guaranteed is not the worst thing in the world. Hill's would be $17 million and JR's would be $11.8 million in potential savings though.
