    This album is so good.

Just now getting a chance to listen to it today, and wow. Blown away that it's as good as it is after their time off. But I shouldn't be surprised, because these guys have never disappointed me.

Also, not trying to bash anyone here directly or anything, but I do not understand ranking discographies after only a few days of hearing a new album. Give it time to sink in, and see how it sits with you weeks and months down the road. We often react to new music based on the excitement of hearing it, but that excitement doesn't last very long once it's not fresh anymore. At that point your view on an album, and where it ranks here or there, likely changes.

It's impossible to rationally put an album you've listened to for two or three days into a ranked list of albums you've listened to for 5+ years.

Just realized that exactly 4 years ago I was in Montreal for the Thrice farewell tour and now we just got a new album :P

Yes...but a thing isn't beautiful because it lasts

Great thoughts on Hurricane; Dustin mentioned somewhere that The Window was inspired by and touches on Plato's "Allegory of the Cave". I love how much Kensrue keeps up on his philosophy, it's always lent such a great lyrical angle to Thrice songs.

I didn't want to put it in my list, but decided to put it since some people included it in theirs. It will most probably end up between 2nd and 4th place.

This feels weird saying this, because the band has been around for so many years and we've all been listening, but I really hope this albums reaches those who aren't familiar with the band/scene.

I've seen the term 'radio rock' thrown around, and while that's mostly used as a negative term, I don't see it as a bad thing at all. I'd love to see this band come back after everything they've done and reach a brand new audience that the previous albums didn't.

That said, this album isn't even really all that different from what they've previously done, and there are elements of every previous album in these songs, but it does feel like a new Thrice.

I'd only listened to thrice a handful of times before this album, and despite a few missteps, I like it a lot, and could absolutely see it on the radio. While I think some songs would've been way more interesting if they weren't structured like a typical pop/rock song, I agree radio rock need not be a bad thing. I'd love to see this get wider play.

    After about 10 listens.

Still really dont like Wake Up. Im already skipping it.

Stay with Me feels weird due to how agressive everything is around it. Not a bad song but I dont think it fits.

Seneca need to be atleast 30 seconds longer.

Lyrically, it is a mixed bag. Not that songs are bad, just feel strange coming from
Dustin. Especially when other songs feel like classic thrice / dustin.

Overall. Highs on this album top Major Minor by a lot for me but the lows hold it back from being as good as Vheissu or Beggars. Prob tied with Alchemy at this point.

I get it, because it's really just human nature to feel like we need to rank the importance of something, but the band has an extensive catalog of great work. I could literally give you reasons for why 'Vheissu' is my favorite album by the band. Same for 'Beggars'. I can make a case for 'the Alchemy Index', or 'The Artist...' all on any given day.

I'm not ready to put this album up there with albums that I've listened to 100+ times and felt every emotion with, when I don't even really know these new songs. It's kind of like meeting a new person and immediately declaring them a best friend, when I have 10 other great friends that I've known far longer and better. I'm going to give it time to see what kind of connection I truly have with this new person.

They really knocked it out of the park with 'Hurricane' as the opener. LOVE that song.

The thing for me is, people are making the comparison to 'radio rock' (which is code for 'lol this sounds like nickelback'), but they didn't really change anything. We've heard all of these songs and their elements in various areas of their expansive catalog. They just took elements of each 'era' of Thrice and put them into one album, IMO.

If they can take everything that's made them great in the past and combine it into a sound that will reach more masses, whether it's popular radio or any other avenue, then they've achieved what every band has ever tried to acheive.

I'd really love to see what 'Stay with Me' could do on radio. Great song.

How is the packaging of the vinyl? I think I will pick this one up. Loving this record.

  14. Seriously. Perhaps the most exciting facet of his whole release cycle is how the four members can shut up about how ready they are to make the next album. I miss the days when they'd release an album ever 1-2 years. Seeing that again would be a dream come true.

  15. Good analogy. I too haven't dared to try placing TBEITBN into a ranking yet. I already have enough trouble ranking the others.

I like this album. Hurricane, The Window, and Death From Above are stand out tracks for me.

Beggars is still their best album. I love that raw production. I love the roomy drum sounds on that record. Love Dustin's melodies. Beggars was their Devil and God in my opinion.

    Fight the long defeat.

Single LP jacket, booklet format insert with plain lyrics and photographs on alternating pages, no commentary.

I've never really been a huge Thrice fan outside of Moving Mountains. But I downloaded the new album on Apple Music and really like it! Favourite tracks so far are Death From Above and Blood in the Sand.

It may be the 5 year hiatus talking, but I absolutely adore this album, hope my opinion doesn't change

I'm trying to be careful and not overplay it within the first week. There's so much other good music that has been released the last few weeks, it's a bit easier to change it up.

    Let's Lead, Not Follow

After 5 or 6 listens, I'd to say The Window is the weakest track on this amazing record. It reminds me Burn The Fleet (I really don't like that song).
Standout tracks IMHO are: Hurricane, Long Defeat, Black Honey, The Long Defeat, Death From Above, Salt And Shadow (Red Sky meets The Alchemy Index "AIR") and Whistleblower (It's catchy as hell!)

I got extremely lucky and was able to buy a smoke variant off someone who had ordered one for himself and a friend (who didn't want it). Probably going to be a week from Monday before it gets here, but I'm just glad I'll have a copy.
