Yeah you’d probably see a leak or hear a loud squeal from the front of your engine if the pump was going out. Your belt might be worn and loose causing your pump not to turn at the proper rpms though. But the thermostat and flush was probably the right call.

I’m dealing with an overheating issue on this beast. Turned out to be an electrical and computer issue. Let’s hope that’s not your problem haha.

 

yeah I've changed a few thermostats in my career as family mechanic haha. figured that would be the easiest/cheapest type of repair to start with. plus my truck has like 130000 miles on it and I'm not positive that the fluid has ever been changed.

it's a 2002 dodge and I'm just trying to get 3-5 more years out of it haha.

 

Yeah those are pretty sweet. Just make sure to get one with a locking clip over the valve lever. Or just make sure the valve doesn’t open too easily

 

Yeah you’re getting to the point where you need to get rid of it or commit to working on it every other weekend, haha. I went 215,000 miles on my last Chevy, but that last 60000 was just a nightmare of issues.

yeah I will. I'm more worried about it being too much lower than the oil pan and getting ripped off if/when my wife drives over something.

this is where I am right now. haha.
changed the condenser fan/motor out a month ago.
did the oil change about 3 weeks ago.
then did a coolant flush this past weekend.

still on my list of things I should probably do since it hasn't had a tuneup in 6 years maybe (if ever)

sparkplugs
power steering flush
possibly a water pump now

it's going to be a long 3-5 years.

this is the oil plug valve that I'm looking at.

That one looks like a good bet. It has a lock clip on the valve, and really short drain nipple so it shouldn’t be low enough to hit anything

 

yeah, based on reviews it looks like the best one that should fit my car.

I still have about a month or 2 before next oil change. going to go with "annual protection" oil haha that's rated for 20,000 miles !! haha. I really just follow when the car tells me it's time to change it though. hoping to get 8 months out of it.

I just put in some Chevron Supreme in my Jeep, $13 for 5 quarts. went with a 10W instead of the recommend 5W. Hopefully I'll get 6months out of it.

 

yeah it's a honda so it take full synthetic 0w20, mobil one makes a 10, 15 and a 20k oil (it's probably all the same oil but whatever) so I'm going to try the 20k this time. used that this time in my brother's hyundai 2 weeks and he's hoping to get a full year out of it.
