Speaking of Obscura, another new song

 

Visiting family abroad and this is my cousins thrash metal band. For thrash metal Thursday

 

Hoping to see Full of Hell and Gatecreeper this weekend. Then Primitive Man with Krallice on Monday and the Slayer farewell tour on Tuesday.

 

Christ, that's a good slate of shows. All I've got on the calendar at the moment (metalwise or tertiary to it) before the end of the month:

Saturday (6/16) - Sannhet, Self Defense Family, RLYR (Pelican sideproject)
6/27 - Of Feather and Bone, Void Omnia, Isenordal, Vukari
6/29 - The Body, BIG|BRAVE, Lingua Ignota

I'm also hoping to cop a ticket today to the Caleb Scofield memorial/ISIS reunion show in LA. Let's see how that goes...

 

Yeah, I'm pretty stoked. I was trying to talk myself out of either the Full of Hell/Gatecreeper show or the Primitive Man/Krallice show, since I already have Slayer too, but the two small shows are only like $10 a piece and seem too good to pass up.

THRASH METAL THVRSDAY YOU KNOW WHAT IT IS

First off, did you know that there is a death/thrash band named Incubus (or there was, before they changed their name to Opprobium)? Actually there are like 7 different metal bands named Incubus, with none of them having written the song "Wish You Were Here." Let's listen to the real Incubus. FFO: Demolition Hammer, Sepultura

I've always been a big fan of Toxik's 1989 album Think This, but their 1987 debut World Circus deserves more love. I'm not typically a fan of these types of vocals in thrash, but the riffs are plentiful. FFO: Heathen, Watchtower, Artillery

And lastly, Atheist isn't posted enough in here so lets' change that. Hope you like death/thrash with jazz influences:

 

New deathgrind project featuring Mick from Anaal Nathrakh and my namesake, Shane, from Napalm Death. This is pretty fucking gnarly.

 

Whew. Haven't been here in a while. Being in Greece for two weeks will do that. Naturally, I spun plenty of Greek black metal and made it through the entire Rotting Christ discography. That was about it, though.

This new Zeal & Ardor album is everything I could've ever hoped for. The best part is probably the fact that my first listen to it was done on the beach of a Greek island in the middle of the night. Spooky as fuck, and perfect. Row Row, Don't You Dare, Ship On Fire and We Can't Be Found are probably my favorite tracks.

You joke, but Eximperitus actually goes pretty hard. They remind me of Nile a bit.

 

Looking to catch up on the 2018 releases after going off the grid - what's new that's worth listening to?

 

Alkaloid, Aparia, Tomb Mold, Gruesome, Exmortus, Wayfarer, Uada, Ritual Necromancy, Grave Upheaval, Oxygen Destroyer, Adzalaan, Vastum/Spectral Voice split, Undergang/Gorephilia split. There are new songs out by Power Trip and Obscura as well. I can narrow down/focus in on some of those if you want.

So I guess I'm flying to LA in October to see Cave In, Isis, Pelican, and Old Man Gloom...

Also, I forgot this was coming out today. It's a new project from Dylan from Full of Hell, one of the dudes from Maruta, and a drummer who has recorded with Merzbow. Cool stuff:

 

Two more gnarly albums that dropped today that I completely forgot about - here's the debut(?) album from Closet Witch (screamy chaotic grind ala Cloud Rat and Agoraphobic Nosebleed) and the debut release from Down Among the Dead Men (crusty old school death metal) that features vox from Dave Ingram who used to be in Bolt Thrower, Hail of Bullets, and Benediction.

Christ, there's a lot of shit coming out today.

Haha, hey, Closet Witch are actually a local band near me. They've got band logo stickers all over my immediate area. There's one by a crosswalk that's been there for as long as I can remember. Cool seeing them getting recognition.

Been gone for two weeks, in which time I spun only the new Z&A, which I of course loved. That being said, given the fuckton of things that came out today, I should be set on new releases for a good bit, haha. Appreciate the recommendations still though!
