Beggars is their best album and it's a scientific fact. Period.

    Google it.

I don't think a Song for Milly is underrated, I think we've been begging for a studio version of the live version since like they first played it live.

The fan made music video in black and white riding down the country side is great if you haven't watched it btw

the sound of the riff on talking through glass is just extremely infectious to me ha. that and dustins vocals are fun there. I guess thats really it. it is a simpler song for sure. think I wanna learn that riff now after talking about it

the mellow type of organic groove on the great exchange is really a style of music I gravitate to personally. the bass during the bridge. beautiful vocal melodies. inspired drumming like you said. I just really find it to be an all around extremely pleasing song

Salt and Shadow definetly makes my top 10 Thrice songs for sure. Death From Above may sneak in one day, as a long time Thrice fan I just love that heavy chorus. The bridge is also great lyrically and probably the most impactful part of the album.

    Fight the long defeat.

If I can jump in on answering this question...

Talking Through Glass is fairly straightforward structurally, but it provides a very cathartic release from Wood & Wire before the relatively subtle tracks to follow. Lyrically, The Great Exchange is one the most beautiful, eloquent, and artistic portrayals of the gospel I have ever encountered -- probably my favorite Thrice lyrics, period. As a Christian, I connect with Dustin's writing for that song on a personal level, but I imagine its redemptive themes must resonate with anyone. Musically, the haunting atmosphere of the song suits the oceanic imagery so, so well.

  9. Metacritic is selective with which publications they include, which I think is wise, personally. But unfortunately in the world of music it means most albums are likely to end up with 10 or fewer reviews aggregated. Metacritic performs much more effectively with films, where most end up with 40 reviews. I'm a big fan of the site, but a lot of the music I listen to is totally off the site's radar. I'll give them credit though for giving TBEITBN some front-page exposure for a few days.

    This.

I utilized The Great Exchange for a sermon illustration a couple of months ago. It's a powerful song, with or without the Christian allegory.

  11. My best friend of the past four years became my friend because I sat next to him one day and randomly showed him "Doublespeak." That was the first time he'd ever heard Thrice, now his favorite band, and TBEITBN is the first time he's getting to experience new Thrice.

"Doublespeak" was my initial favorite from Beggars but my favorite has changed plenty over the years.

So has there been confirmation that it's a ukelele that opens Hurricane? Sounds more to me like a steel guitar with some effects on it. Thoughts?

Could it be the opening of Black Honey?

Some new thoughts occuring to me about the lyrics. Promises was kinda a lyrical sequel to The Weight, I think Hurricane could be as well. Perhaps it is the storm described in The Weight. Also The Window is the same lyrical concept as Between the End and Where We Lie/Earth Will Shake, I think the setting was probably inspired by "Room"

Also as Mook stated, the Replay-ability of this record is crazy. I have been replaying it non stop since Friday and have not got tired of any of it.

  20. Holy crap. This is incredible.

I've been getting a lot of feelings about Kensrue trying to tie a lot of his lyrics together thematically, it's been making me want to go through the entire discography of lyrics to start making connections like the ones you've pointed out

Also barely noticed the vocals hidden in the outro of The Window could be the song he refers to in the lyrics " I strained my ears until I thought that I might have heard a song" Brilliant.

Loving how the verse of Wake Up are referencing sleep and lullabies and melody is reminscent of like bluesy "rock a bye baby"

This is why Thrice will forever be my all time favorite.

Does anyone have a way to scan the lyric/artwork booklet that came with it?

I didn't know this but Christopher King of This Will Destroy You did the artwork, design, and art direction.
