Just got back from seeing A Perfect Circle, my god I’ve missed hearing Maynards stunning vocals live (I last saw Tool in 2008).

The band were on fine form too, Josh Freese’s drumming is so tight live. The light show was amazing and I thought the new songs sounded incredible. Anyways top night all in all.

@edisnfg's second recommendation for me is:

    Microwave: Stovall (2014)

Microwave are a rock band from Atlanta, Georgia and this is their first full length after releasing a couple of EP's. Musically, they are one of those bands that blur the lines between indie and alternative rock while bringing to mind acts like Taking Back Sunday, Bayside and Trophy Eyes to name a few. There are even some nods to post hardcore with vocalist Nathan Hardy not so much screaming but yelling at times.

Lyrically, this is an album that paints a picture of the age old saying: "the grass isn't always greener on the other side". During the writing of this record, Nathan was in the process of disassociating himself from the Mormon Church, something he had been immersed in since his youth and went so far as to be a missionary. As he got older, he started to question the harsh restrictions placed upon him and longed for a life free to make his own decisions, no matter what the consequences. The topics covered on the record are him experiencing all these new things like sex, drugs and drinking along with a multitude of other bad habits that carried the burden of guilt after the dust had settled in the act of actually partaking in these things he was told were forbidden for so long.

This is a fantastic record from beginning to end and keeps you engaged the entire time. The bands that I mentioned they sound like are all great and if there is a band capable of blending them together, I am all for it. I will say that the album feels a little back heavy or even lop sided in it's track listing. My favorite songs, other than Labor Day, seem to all fall towards the back half and these all tend to be the more "emotional" or passionate ones with a lot of the yelling I mentioned and more complex song arrangements. These especially remind me of Trophy Eyes and are a band I really enjoy. This is a minor complaint as every song is just amazing and the production is great.

If you have never heard this record yet, make sure to check it out! This will be in heavy rotation!

RIYL: Taking Back Sunday, Bayside, Trophy Eyes

    Favorite songs:
    Labor Day
    Tar
    The Last
    The Fever

    "I'd Kill To Fall Asleep"

Awesome review! Really glad you liked this album too. Another band that I think deserves more recognition. I actually didn't know the background of the album, so this was really interesting to read and will give me a new perspective of the album next time i give it a listen. I actually prefer the front half of the album to the later half, so that just means this band has something for everyone! I don't want to pat myself on the back but I'm gonna say i'm 2 for 2 so far lol.

The last album @edisnfg gave me is:

Cold Collective: Bachelorette Party (2016) Rise Records

Cold Collective are a rock band from Boston, Massachusetts and are comprised of Ex-Transit member, Tim Landers, along with several members of Defeater. The final product is a fun summer pop rock record that mixes Jimmy Eat World and The Foo Fighters with a bit of punk rock swagger.

The albums opens with one of the most fun and infectious songs I have heard in a while, Feel Out. It is just a fantastic pop rock song. You can just picture a bunch of friends hanging out at the beach, blasting the song and having a great time. From here on out, the band takes you on a fun filled journey. I love Tim's vocals and how they have this gruff tone to them but are beautiful at the same time and fit the record perfectly. The band is great and I love how the music is coated in a thick layer of reverb and distortion. The album is sequenced perfectly and starts and ends with two of my favorite songs and closes with the aptly titled, Adieu. I didn't get too in depth with the lyrics because I got lost in how fun it is. Although, I found myself singing along by the third spin.

This is the perfect record for this time of year and just makes you feel good. I will playing this album A LOT. I want to keep hitting play!

RIYL: Jimmy Eat World, The Foo Fighters, Fun summer jams blasting out of your car!

    Favorite Songs:
    Feel Out
    No Escape
    Bottleneck
    Adieu

Honestly, they are all fantastic and this is such a fun album!

I feel it necessary for everyone to check out this song:

Thank you @edisnfg for all these great recommendations! It has been a pleasure and I look forward to trading with you again!
