Planning to check out Exmortus, Zeal & Ardor, and the new collab album by Uniform & The Body. Anything else I should add to my list?

New Tomb Mold (r/metal's favorite new death metal band of the last two years) and new YOB (the kings of Northwest doom). I think you'll enjoy both, especially YOB.

It came out last week, but Kataklysm's new album has stayed in my rotation all week long.

    Some random Friday stuff

New Chthei'ilist 7" EP next week. I am so stoked. These guys were one of the first bands I really got into when I started my deep dive into metal a few years ago:

There is a Death documentary coming out next month, color me excited. They've been working on it for a long time.

And Covenant by Morbid Angel is shreddit's album of the week. I revisited it and man, it's such a great slab of OSDM:

Is this Zeal & Ardor record actually good? I desperately wanted the first one to be good and it totally wasn’t but I guess a lot of people felt that way and are saying the new one slams

I’m really digging it, it feels like a step up from the debut.

It’s by far Slayers worst album, it’s not unlistenable but it isn’t very good either.

For tech death fans who can't wait for the new Obscura album to come out, this should hold you over:

    Random Monday dump:

New Drawn and Quartered track! They play sweet OSDM FFO Immolation and Dead Congregation:

New Innumerable Forms track from their upcoming album. They also play OSDM, but with some more doom influences as opposed to an all out grinding assault like Drawn and Quartered...FFO Asphyx, Ataraxy, Coffins

The new Backslider EP is a nice two song slab of noise-rock influenced fastcore. This was pretty much all I listened to this weekend:

No posts in over 24 hours? Christ, y'all nerds have been quiet.

The tracks available from the Hoth album that comes out Friday sound pretty damn great. Blackened death metal or deathened black metal? IDK. I'm getting more the latter from the two tracks that are up. But the production sounds great to me - lower fi, but doesn't sound like it was recorded in bathroom stall. Make your own opinions about it though:

This has been my most anticipated album for awhile. They're a local band so I'm hoping for an album release show or something. Their previous album was squarely in the melodic black metal department. It's a concept album that tells of the rise and fall of Anakin Skywalker and the SW nerd in me loves it. Great album, even with the drum machine lol

I'm listening to that one right now, and it's flooring me how good this is considering today is the first I've heard of them. The production on this hits an ideal spot for me - it doesn't sounds too polished, but still has a nice DIY feel to it. I'm jealous you even get the chance to possibly see them locally, but it doesn't look like they play live often if at all based on a quick scan of Facebook and Metal Archives.

same. dude is a good vocalist, but their music falls into the same trap that a lot of tech death does for me unfortunately. obscura is an exception to that rule so i'm excited to (likely) see them.
