the two new songs make so much more sense musically within the context of what was discussed in that Stereogum feature. New Bermuda was so dark because shit was bad and obviously it created some incredible art that had a significant drain on them emotionally and physically. These songs sound like a band that has emerged from that very bad place and are seeing the sun rise again.

 

also love that two new songs from Deafheaven result in 20+ minutes of new music haha

 

Not gonna listen to the single until the album is out but I’m so excited and if it’s anything like honeycomb, I have a feeling this’ll be my favorite dh release

 

Deafheaven has become one of those hallowed bands where you could rank their albums in any order and really not be wrong

i've only listened to sunbather and for some reason never checked out new bermuda

 

No better time than the present

 

Yesterday was the 5 year anniversary of sunbather so I listened to it on the way to LA. The title track still might be one of their best songs.

i listened to like half of it, don't want to give away too much

 

I caved and it’s gorgeous. The visual elements and teasers they’ve released so far fit the music perfectly.

 

I caved and this song is amazing and this band is pretty much flawless in my eyes.

I strangely find New Bermuda to be the easier listen, but Sunbather absolutely tears me to shreds.

Same here actually. Something about the production makes it more “immediate” than Sunbather to me, even though Sunbather was what initially blew me away and made me a fan.

 

Went for a walk and put this song on. The next thing I know I've been walking for 30 minutes with this on repeat. Which, I guess is only listening to it twice. Haha

Really excited to get lost in this one.

This is shaping up to be their best album

 

Just picked up The End of the Affair. I read Unbearable Lightness of Being after Sunbather came out. Love the literary references that tie into their music.

 

I love these two songs so much, I want to listen to them all the time
