Could this intro thing be a piece of the new record?

 

Did anyone see the video of The Earth Will Shake from their London show? They kinda stop playing for a sec because the crowd was clapping out of sync or something? Dustin says something I can’t understand and then a couple second later they start playing again? Just wondering what that was about lol.

 

Thrice fans are notoriously bad at clapping in time

 

Yeah it was kinda ruining the song/annoying af

 

I wasn’t at that particular show, but I have been to both a Thrice show and a solo show where he did the same thing. People laughed and thought it was a joke, and he was all, “No, seriously, if you can’t clap in sync then stop it.”

 

Reminds me of the Justin Bieber video when he stops the crowd and shows them how to clap right lol

 

That’s happened during a few of the times I’ve seen them haha really takes you out of the song

 

Folks not being able to clap in rhythm with The Earth Will Shake is documented on the live Farewell Tour Anthology record. In that the clapping is all out of whack with Riley's playing and Dustin comments "follow the high hat" before going into the song so it must annoy them haha. I think Riley has mentioned it before on his baseball podcast as well

 

One thing I love about Thrice/Dustin is they don’t talk much to the crowd during the show. It can get annoying when these bands get on their soapbox for 5 mins, I love that they just play.

A la the "Play Deabolt" and "I disagree" shirts, I previously pitched a t-shirt that says, "Clap with the Hi-Hat." Unfortunately, I couldn't galvanize enough momentum.

 

It sounds like they had a bunch of guitar tuning issues at the Electric Ballroom show. Dustin mentioned that "The Grey" was out of tune. "The Window" also sounds flat on Teppei's side.

Pro-tip: Avoid the first shows on a tour if at all possible (which it rarely is). I love to cherrypick dates that are late in the tour when they're firing on all cylinders and Dustin's voice is strong as an ox.

To each their own, though.

 

The clapping bit was right at the start of/basically before The Earth Will Shake, people were clapping too quickly and Dustin was like 'I appreciate the enthusiasm but that's too quick, it'll sound wrong, it's too quick' and then they properly started the song. Not really that bad. Also didn't notice any tuning issues, in fact probably best sound wise I've seen them over like four gigs, may be the venue tho idk

 

Gone from thinking Beggars was their worst to their best in about a year, shout out to everyone here for convincing me to stick with it

 

I've had the same experience. Hated it when it came out and now it's one of my favorites.

its a pretty good group. I would compare it to Andy Hull is my captain more than like those really bad Brand New fb groups back in the day.

 

apparently they are playing it in a different key too. didn't even notice until someone pointed it out.

 

I’m glad to see the community come together and crown Beggars as their best album.

Beggars is their best but Vhiessu is my favorite
