This might be true for me too. Vheissu is my clear number one, and IC is my least favorite though I still like it (and absolutely loved it when I first heard it).

After that there are probably 3 "pairs" though the exact order would fluctuate:

    Artist
    Beggars

    Alchemy
    TBEITBN

    Illusion
    M/m

EDIT: I realize I've only had a few days with TBEITBN but that's about where it feels for me right now. I don't see it displacing Artist or Beggars, but it could possibly slip down after some of the recency bias wears off.

And Thrice is my favorite band so I don't think any of these are bad records.

Did you find them not well written? Or is it how religious/spiritual they are?

    I really love this album.

    How religious

That doesn't bother me though. The production on the other hand...

Production definitely wasn't great, though that rarely ruins my enjoyment of an album.

I'm not religious at all, but that part of his lyrics has never bothered me. I remember seeing that complaint a lot though about M/m and I didn't understand it given that aspect has been present since IC and was just as blatant there and on Vheissu and Beggars.

Usually doesn't either, but I feel like songs like Yellow Belly should sound huge, and they don't. It doesn't ruin it for me - still like that and every other post IOS album a lot - but it knocks it down a peg.

Same. I actually think he's a pretty good writer most of the time

  7. the religiousness has never bothered me with this band, I like the way he writes about it.

I just got my vinyl delivered and opened it to (thankfully) find the smoke variant. Looking forward to spinning this later today

Same here! Had my expectations low given the reported issues, but I was mighty pleased to see that beautiful piece of plastic. Swoooooooooon.

Hope everyone else on here got/gets the right order!

    If we're ranking the albums:

    Artist
    Beggars
    Illusion
    TBEITBN
    Vheissu
    Major/Minor
    Alchemy
    Identity

TBEITBN could move down once the shine has worn off. I am probably in the minority having Alchemy so low, but it's more mood music for me. I could actually move Major/Minor up a level, too. I think it's underrated, personally, but I understand the issues people have with it.

    Vheissu
    TAITA
    Beggars
    TIOS
    M/m
    IC
    TAI

Too early to pretend like I know TBEITBN would fit in there.

I hope everyone ultimately gets theirs too! I actually wasn't super enamored with it from the pictures, but in person it looks fantastic!

  15. Let's say I've never heard a Thrice album before--is this a good starting point, or should I start with something older?

I'd say yes. They go heavier and lighter than this album, but you can pretty much get a feel of most of their music (first two notwithstanding) from this one.

At least listen to Vheissu or Beggars before this.

I've honestly just started listening to both Air/Earth recently, and really like it. I need more time with it though.

All these lists without Vheissu in first place has me seriously considering getting all y'all into the ear doctor.

Also to the discussion earlier about there being a Words in the Water reference in The Long Defeat I'm pretty sure he's saying word in the wire. He then rhymes it with fire. I could be wrong. Regardless it's close.

  22. Not by critics though. Currently sitting at a 70 Metacritic score versus M/m's 82

  23. Wait have we already started adding TBEITBN into our album rankings? My heart can't handle that yet

  24. Yeah that was my bad. I started that discussion and then relistened to the song and noticed my mistake.

does metacritic even matter for music /anything?
