It's true though! I'll definitely give it some solid listens in the next week. Thrice has been one of my favorite bands for a long time so my indifference toward Artist has always felt off.

VERY positive reception. Definitely looks like it's being considered one of their best already. Maybe even up there with Vheissu and Beggars, but at least somewhere in that zone.

Don't remember who said it, but I liked an analogy someone made here about it being sort of like Thrice's equivalent to Star Wars: The Force Awakens. This is an album for the fans that isn't necessarily groundbreaking but it's incredibly solid through and through and even takes their sound to another level. And now that the hype is back, the next album can be more experimental.

Edit: Just discovered the search bar. It was Mike J who made that analogy. :)

When I attempt ranking the Thrice discography, it looks muddled because every album is second place behind Beggars, and Identity Crisis is in third.

I enjoy TBEITBN as much as what already fills that second place slot. I go through phases in which I listen to one or two of them often and then fade into a different phase of listening to another one or two of the albums. I feel like TBEITBN will just drop into the rotation, but it could end up taking second place all to itself while the rest of the discography gets pushed down a slot.

After two listens I was a bit disappointed in this because it isnt really what I expected/ wanted from them. A lot of it seems more like Dustin Kensrue feat. Thrice rather than actual Thrice. The songs are pretty simple in that basically every song starts with intro riff-verse-chorus-intro riff-verse-chorus then some kind of ending and I would like more variation on that.

After 5 listens though, Ive realized that despite that, this is VERY solid. Hopefully they do a bit more experimentation later, but for now this is a great addition to their discography. So glad they're back.

Stay With Me could've easily been on Dustin's solo record last year.

  7. You know, I could be wrong about this. I was hearing "word in the water" in "The Long Defeat," but now I'm hearing "word in the wire." Boo.

Yep! I remember hearing "word in the wire," but I couldn't remember which song it was from lol.

  9. Not trying to start an argument, but most of their music is verse-chorus-verse-chorus. The Water EP is painfully formulaic with that dynamic. Even most of Beggars is verse-chorus-verse-chorus-instrumental outro.

Words in the Water and Wood & Wire fit into the same theological headspace, so the callback still works.

  11. TAITA and IC are probably my bottom 2 as well, but I still love jamming both.

Cannot get over the last minute of DFA. Dustin's vocal melody there is perfect.

Yeah. I was kind of surprised when I popped back into this community and saw the dislike for it. I've always loved it.

I distinctly remember people here and elsewhere going crazy for Major/Minor when it was released. It was pretty critically acclaimed by critics and fans alike. It's never been my favorite but it's still a great album.

TBEItBN pretty much confirms my qualms with the production on M/M though. That album sounded so confined and this one sounds so huge.

I loooovvveeee how at the end of Salt and Shadow, the piano plays the riff from Hurricane. Really great touch that wraps up the album really well.

I'd say I listen to TAITA the least apart from Identity Crisis.

M/M is fantastic, in my opinion only a notch below Beggars.

  24. Forgive me if this has been brought up in here already (I've mostly only seen praise for the production as I've skimmed), but does the low end sound neutered to anyone else?

I was hoping it was just the quality of the leak but now I'm spinning the LP before I send it back to them and I'm still having qualms with that.

Major Minor is an awesome album, but the lyrical content is something that could turn off a lot of people to it, I can see how some didn't feel like it was good. There were a few times the lyrics got in the way of my enjoyment as well.
