Eh. Which role in particular do you think his overacting is most obvious? Because I don’t see it.

 

Didn't read the article until now but Lewis is playing Steve McQueen (which I could see) and Hirsch is playing hairstylist Jay Sebring who was one of the victims in the Tate murder.

 

Pretty much all of them. To be fair, the worst roles had some of the most questionable direction (The Great Gatsby, J. Edgar, Revolutionary Road), and often he is miscast, but the Departed stands out, which is saying something given how Scorsese let Nicholson dominate the film.
