De Bruyne on the right is a waste

    What's this in reference to?

  3. I would think adding a new RW would be better. Gundogan, De Bruyne, Silva as the midfield.

Gundogan would be doing all the work there, and he's not exactly a solely defensive player. You could maybe convert one of De Bruyne or Silva into midfield, but you couldn't carry two of them there. Not enough work-rate or defensive awareness.

    On Wednesday's, we're Sheffield.

  7. I could be wrong, I just feel like you'd get more value out of De Bruyne in the midfield than as a winger. But I do agree about that midfield lacking a defensive minded player though. I guess based on what they have De Bruyne would have to play a wing position.

You also have to look at all of Pep's great teams. They all have that "smart" DM position locked down. Yaya before being usurped by Busquets, Schweini/Xabi at Bayern... some of the best to play that position currently around or at their time. (My bias towards Busquets also says "or ever played"...)

If he doesn't think someone on the City roster has that identity locked down, that's who he is going to go find.

It'll be Gundogan next to Ferndinho, front four of Augero, Sterling, Silva, De Bruyne. Work that however you'd like.

I think in a Pep 4-3-3, De Brunye wouldn't be playing exactly as a winger, more of a wide playmaker. Sterling would provide the width and pace to stretch teams and then De Brunye would be coming inside to have more of an impact centrally, like Silva used to do.

All speculation at this point though!

So I didn't really watch this year.

    Is Yaya just done?

Under Pep, Messi was a "right winger" if that's any indication for what De Bruyne could typically be doing in the system.

He doesn't / won't press or run in midfield anymore. He still contributes, but drifts out of the game more than he used to a few years back.

I don't think he's done, but I don't think he has a place in Pep's system. He's already sold him once.

I think he's still a useful player in the right system / team though.

Didn't Pep move him central midway through his second season?

Hasn't he been only playing back on the right (ish) for the last year or so?

He played centrally only after Eto'o and Ibrahimovic both left, so whenever that was (2010?). There was a weird time when the front line was Pedro-Cesc-Alexis and Messi was in midfield on the right side (maybe this was under Tata in that weird year 2013, I think).

Since like five games into Suarez's introduction he's been "on the right" with freedom to go pretty much anywhere, so almost a year and a half now.

i wonder if the individual brilliance of Madrid will be enough to see Madrid through, or if Madrid's solidity and tenacious defending will hold Madrid off.

I like when these discussions happen. We should do it more often.

Also think we'll have more ideas for clubs after the Euros/Copas. That's when Jordi Alba had his coming out party, basically, and locked down a Barca deal.

What a game that was. His goal in the Copa final against Sevilla last weekend was very similar to the one in that final, iirc.

Euros 2012 I learned so much from convos like these. It's a lot of fun.
