Sucks, because I enjoyed those two Wovenwar records. I'll be disappointed if they caved and got back together with Tim after all that shit. Also, that Poison Headache band that Phil started was really good, so I hope that doesn't get put on the back burner now.

 

I'd be in favor of banning all As I Lay Dying related talk from this thread unless we're roasting Lambesis. But that's just me...

 

I think what truly infuriates me about the whole with the AILD reunion thing is that it ultimately says that Tim never really had to suffer any true consequences for his actions career-wise. Sure, he’s a felon and straight up lost his family but now he has his band back and we all know people will ignore what he did because they’re back (or they’re shitheads who always defended him) and the band will make bank doing a reunion tour.

 

Yeah, the As I Lay Dying thing honestly pisses me off. I don’t think someone who’s truly “changed” immediately tries to insert themselves back into the limelight like Tim is doing. If/when his anger gets the best of him again and he pulls some new awful bullshit, the rest of the band will have zero excuse for why they decided to enable his return to the public light.

I forgot how good Heavy Breathing by Black Breath is. It's a perfect mix of HM-2 laden death metal with hardcore urgency:

Mindforce makes some pretty rad crossover with emphasis on the hardcore side of things. Those riffs are still gnarly AF though:

Also, one other release to post about today:

Here's a name-your price compilation release, "Vulgar Display of Purring" (heh), with a bunch of tracks from NYC metal bands (Artificial Brain, Tombs, Car Bomb, etc.) where all proceeds go to City Critters, a NYC based organization that places stray and abandoned cats with homes and works with members of the community to find humane solutions to problems involving homeless animals. Dope stuff, and I'll probably throw a few bones to them later because I love kittens.

I thought Black Breath was just on a break. Really hope they decide to do something else together soon.

totally forgot to do my mdf debrief...work and life has been pretty insane since i got back from baltimore. DHG was pretty cool. They performed well and put on a hell of a show for the 50 minutes they played. They had a really cool movie playing behind them the entire time they played that was footage of traveling through a galaxy to different planets and getting closeups of the planets' surfaces that ranged from an ice planet with ravines and crags all over the place to a lava planet with lava flows jumping out of the fire. On the negative, they had some sound issues (which plagued the larger venue that MDF was using for a lot of the "smaller" bands). The bass drum outweighed everything else in the mix for the first half of their set. It eventually got sorted out though. After listening to them and seeing them live, it just confirmed that I'm not gonna be a huge fan of them...I'm generally not a fan of proggier stuff like that unless it clicks for me. That said, I'd imagine someone who was a bigger fan of DHG to have had a hell of a time.

 

I, for one, welcome our new robot overloads. Especially at 600 BPM, holy fuck.
