Did anyone look at the lyrics of Mene and think he was referring to the end of Brand New? When I first heard it and began making out the lyrics that was my interpretation, that Mene was like the beginning of the end.

That's how I've always read the song.

The story that it's referring to in the book of Daniel is apt for inferring that the end is near for the band.

Yeah I had never actually read the definition before, so that made it a lot more clear, but things like "come gather now and lay this beast to rest" and "we walked to the edge but we never left" were what hit me first and made me think of it.

Didn't he say that song was originally written for TDAG but never recorded, then considered again for Daisy but it also didn't get recorded then either?

we've seen the shadow of the axe before Supporter

Mene probably would have worked on Daisy.

Yeah they said that was written a long time ago... So probably really has nothing to do with them being close to hanging it up other than coincidance

I have a feeling I Am a Nightmare is going to be the Blood on the Sand of this album. Just a quick straightforward track to be a decent single. The rest of the record will slay.

I mean they easily could have written new lyrics for it. The Hotelier just did that with one of their old songs that was on a split. I could see them having a framework for the song and maybe some lyrics, but then when they revisited it Jesse decided to change some wording to fit where they're at now.

I think an album full of songs similar to I Am a Nightmare would slay:thumbup:

On Daisy they constantly sing about hanging things up like on Bought a Bride and Noro, so I don't think you can really infer a breakup from lyrics. It would make sense the end will come sooner than later. Jesse has mentioned it live that he can't do this forever and with a kid now I feel like he might just want to be home.

I think I would not listen to an album stylistically like I Am a Nightmare twice if that happened. I'm preparing for disappointment, but that's okay, didn't think we'd get another album anyway, so no big loss.

I definitely think after this they're going to call it. I think at this point they're really content with what they've accomplished and want to move on with their lives. I'm hoping for a "swan song" kind of record, because I think that would be such a cool way for them to go out.

I feel like this album will be their last. Just because of how much they've been hinting at the end in the past year. Just based on a gut feeling of sort, I think the album will have songs that fit with each of their 4 albums. I don't really know of course, but I feel like it'll have songs that connect to one part of their fan base, and songs that connect with the other. I don't like I Am a Nightmare, but I think there will be at least a couple songs closer to Daisy and The Devil and God that I might like.

Well maybe but, I'd definitely prefer an experimental, lengthy, polarising one. I want a Daisy reaction. My god I hope that musically, it's as deep and emotionally involving to me as TDAG. That album is astounding. I'd be disappointed if Nightmare is an indication of what the album sounds like in general. I love Nightmare but a whole album of those kinda fast-paced, more upbeat (by Brand New standards - I know it's not an upbeat song) songs would put me off.

Would it be surprising if they never explicitly broke up though? Isn't that the Brand New way??

I don't see Brand New leaving and like never playing a show again. When they do "go on hiatus" or whatever, I'll be very surprised if they don't do shows within like 5 or 6 years of a hiatus

I see them just deleting social media and being done with it, then doing a reunion tour and that being it.

i just want a DVD documentary / live show from this band. I would love like an in depth video interview of the bands history, their thoughts on every phase of the band, thoughts on how they're perceived etc. I think it would be so interesting.

Will (probably) never happen but man that'd be cool

Don't talk about the end you guys it's making me sad. I don't want them to go. I love how Thrice is already looking forward to the next step even after they just released their (stellar) new record. Long live Thrice and hopefully Brand New too.
