i meant more in conventional review form, rather than more of a personal reflection (though i know those lines are blurred at times).

The Long Defeat is becoming my favorite right now. Whoever compared it to Flags of Dawn is on to something.

 

I'd say every song on this is better than every song from M/M.

Excluding Words in the Water, of course.

 

That would be insane

 

Speaking of, I love the words in the water callback on this album. Lots of good references, like talking through glass too

 

Not trying to belabor the complaint, but how about assuring orders that shipped on time are sent to the proper recipients?

Did customer service mention anything about a resolution for the mistaken deliveries?

I got to see and meet them again tonight, such nice guys. The songs sound great acoustic too.

Man it would make me so happy, it actually sounded awesome from the link you posted, thanks for that btw. Those songs really lent themselves to being played acoustically.

 

Went into this with no expectations and it's pretty great. Awesome to hear these guys sounding this good after all these years.

EDIT: I guess the lyrics is "I believe there's a word in the wire" according to the booklet. Bummer.

 

FYI for anyone who got shipped the black vinyl instead of the smoke variant, I emailed Delivery Agent via the Thrice store and promptly got a message back saying they would reship my correct order. I offered to exchange the one they sent me with the correct one, but they made no mention of me needing to return the first one they sent me. So it looks like I might end up with two records for the price of one. Hooray for me?

 

Black Honey (acoustic) is extraordinary. God, I wish they did bonus acoustic tracks like last time.

 

Does anyone realize how good a Thrice acoustic record would be? They tend to make their songs even more interesting in that format. Maybe not more interesting, but unique in their own right.

Is it too cliché for them to make an acoustic record?

 

I've been hoping they'd do like a "best of" acoustic record for a while now. I love the Live at Santa Monica songs and now hearing these ones was great too.

 

I don't think acoustic suits them. It limits them. Sometimes that can force a band to come up with something more creative, but I find they usually do pretty straight acoustic versions. (except for Stare at the Sun way back when)

 

My fears were unwarranted, I really like this. I can't wait to dive in some more.

 

FedEx smartpost has my package ten minutes away from me as of 6:30 this morning. Think it'll be coming today. Hopefully.

 

Anyone notice the riff on whistleblower sounds like senses fail bite to break skin lol?

 

I think we're just getting to the point where there is so much music, something will always sound close to something else. I mean, the opening percussion section on The Window is nearly identical to a worship song from the early-00s that my mom used to like. Like, I legit re-checked iTunes when it started.
