Random Friday updates:

-New Thou EP is solid background music. A nice supplement to their ongoing EP series. The Changeling Prince is MASSIVE, and Magus is going be an impressive beast if the rest of the album sounds like that.

-The new Gruesome is more solid, Death worship from them. It's nothing that is reinventing the wheel, but it scratches that Chuck Schuldiner-sized itch perfectly:

 

Gruesome own. It's pure Death worship, but since they're up front about it, I'm totally okay with it. Would love to see them and Power Trip go on tour together.

 

Another new Hoth song. Hype levels rising.

I'd settle for a non-festival headlining date from Gruesome period. They headlined a brutal death metal festival here last year, but I wasn't going to cop a $40 single day ticket just to see them headline a set at like 12:30 at night.

 

As a huge fan of Death, Gruesome is obviously great but the lyrics are such a huge step down from the source of inspiration. Like clearly it's not gonna be the same but Chuck's lyrics are one of my favorite things about Death. "You are a piece of shit. Fuck you!" isn't exactly as compelling lol. Everything else is dope tho

 

also I know they're not metal but As I Lay Dying changed their Facebook profile pic and the comments are pretty great

I thought AILD is metal. 94 hours was a gateway song for me, as cheesy as that sounds.

 

I want to say there is or was a Polish band that's a string of like fifty letters and it's apparently an acronym for something. I saw it twice my whole life but was never able to find it again

Never listened to Ghost before. Decided to start with their Meliora album before I go to the new one. Digging it

 

I've never really dived into Ghost outside a couple songs, but I'm not sure I will ever be able to without thinking of the tweet saying they sound like "Scooby Doo chase music"

 

The new Ghost album isn't bad. It's pretty top heavy and there are some songs clearly made for radio. There are two instrumental tracks (not including the intro song) but they're actually both good. Album ends on an anticlimactic note but overall it's not bad.

 

They remind me kinda of a mixture of Mastodon, and Pallbearer. With a hint of theatricality.

 

My favorite is a band called Eximperituserqethhzebibšiptugakkathšulweliarzaxułum.

the ballad on the ghost album is laughably bad. the rest is okay to good.

 

I’m honestly curious as to why Jordan, Nick, Phil, and Josh decided to go back to AILD if true. Like they definitely were not happy with what happened with Tim and have made numerous comments downplaying the band since so what gives? I guess Wolvenwar wasn’t going anywhere so they gave in?
