Okay, been busy so I'm really late to the party, but I fucking love this. Matty sounds fantastic, the vocal melody is wonderful, and on my monitor headphones the guitar is sitting perfectly in the mix, not jarring at all. That might not be the case on every other headphones and speakers though. Damn, what a ride this has been since the Facedown EP.. No other band excites me like this anymore. And 2 albums?? TWO ALBUMS??!!

The video looks like it's taking the piss out of black and white era Matty, and his guitar playing from the original Sex video. Good shiz.

Kinda feel like they shouldn't have premiered this on the radio before the countdown if it was just to the video. I appreciate that they did, but the countdown is kinda irrelevant now. I'm not going to pretend I'm chomping at the bit to see the video, and it certainly doesn't really warrant a countdown unless June 1st sees us being presented with album deets and preorders.

For sure. Played that bad boy on repeat since it went up on Spotify. Just amazed at the speculation still going on over at reddit regarding June 1st after what we've been given tonight.

  17. not about this four-month-long rollout but the new song is fucking brilliant so I shall check back ITT in October with the hype train in full steam

Not thin in that it's lacking bass, the mix just sounds empty. they usually have so many layers to their sound this feels like it's lacking something.

there's a drum machine, the main guitar, bass, and then a background guitar or synth cant tell plus matty's vocals. its a pretty sparse song but its far from empty, the guitar is huge the bass is extremely clear the drums have that classic drum machine sound to them and matty's vocals are awash in reverb. there's plenty of depth to what's going on there's just not a shit load going on, it's very very clean sounding.

One of the best things about the 1975 is one song is not an indication of the others. Hence that piano score used in every single countdown compared to the song we got today.

  23. this song has some catchy vocals and stuff, but the instrumentation is not so great. i don't like this song at all on first listen. what's up with the annoyingly screechy guitar tones?!

I think it actually adds presence to what is there. Daft comparison, maybe, but look at a band like The xx and their first album - the quiet emphasised the instruments and vocals. Not there's not a quiet that intense here, or being used to that effect, but in my opinion the mix here means the drum machine is particularly prominent, the bass stands out more, and despite the volume of the lead guitar, it somehow blends quite well with the reverby vocals.
