I'm still not that into the start of this album. I think Goodness Pt 2 and Piano Player are good, but they're both among some of my least favorite songs on this album. Two Deliverences/Settle The Scar is still when it really picks up for me.

In fact, I think my favorite part of the album is from Soft Animal onward.

  2. Right, I actually had that in my post and deleted it because I couldn't remember if I was making it up and couldn't find a source haha. That's true, I guess my point is that something like 8/10 or 7/10 means different things to different people and that divide is a lot more visible on p4k due to the selection process and having more than one cook in the kitchen.

I was about to write down my favorite stretch of the record but I don't think I can, haha, I sincerely love the whole thing from start to finish.

I'm still waiting for this whole thing to click with me like it has with a lot of people in here. I do love the record, but not nearly as much as everyone in here it seems haha. It's great watching you all share your admiration for it though. I hope to be able to really contribute to that some day.

I live a block away from a local record shop. I think i'm gonna go after work and see if they have goodness. They have it listed as a new release on the front page but in cd format. Should have a few copies id think.

I mean, I think numerical scores are ultimately pretty meaningless and I'm super glad I don't have to give them anymore. But I don't think the number is entirely separate from the review either. If the number is there, it makes sense that people are going to talk about it--especially in this situation when so many bands from this scene have landed in the same like, 7.8 to 8.2 range or whatever.

  8. Agreed, the score is definitely part of it / worth the discussion. I just never get caught up on the score not necessarily matching the words in Pitchfork reviews, I guess, since I know it's not the writer assigning that number based on their words like other publications. Hope that makes sense. Not trying to silence discussion on the score or anything haha.

The biggest problem I've found with numerical scoring is the fact that readers tend to assume that all music falls on the same /10 scale. Like, just because I'd score Album X with a 7 and Album Y with an 8 doesn't necessarily mean I think Y is better than X. It's not like every artist is taking the same math test or whatever. I reeeaaally like the system that Chorus uses for scoring now, I did a similar thing when I was just writing about music on Tumblr and stuff like 5 years ago.

love posts that try to bring things down using adjectives that don't actually mean anything!

Not as cringey as this post imo. Just because something isn't important to you, doesn't make it not important for others.

It's gotta be a taste thing, not sure this band fits everyone's taste.. I don't know about important but this record makes me feel so many things, which is why I love it. There is just a feel and sound to this record that makes me love it, forget lyrical content (which is incredible but has been touched on a ton). I love that it feels live and that it feels so natural, I love that it doesn't really sound like a whole lot of other things out there right now. To me this is exactly what the record would sound like if performed live without feeling to raw or underproduced. It's totally unique in that way, but if you don't like that sound you arnt going to like this.

I love that this record uses major chords in distortions without any real lead guitar at times and just lets the rhythm section drive the song.

It's fine that he has an opinion but I think people can mention why the album is important to them. Since he is having trouble understand how they are so popular with this community

Nah nah not having this. He's the one that went after people's opinions with his throwaway "I can't believe people think they're better than average" comment.

Yeah taking the time to constantly remind us you don't like this album is a bit more cringey

  18. Your user name is a post 2003 Strokes album so I guess that would make you an expert on cringy, boring and monotonous...

I absolutely adore the poem. Every time I hear it, another line tugs me. I like the possible references to "Sun", "You In This Light", and "End Of Reel". It's an introspective aspect of the album and it ties well into the themes that are spread across the record.

I mean the person has spent a week straight telling us how they don't like it. It's just so boring and rote at this point. You've made your point.

Which is what my post was trying to convey lol, but maybe this just isn't your taste.. There probably was a time where I wouldn't have liked this musically either.. But I changed quite a bit to what I listen for in music these days. Hope these helped but either way, it really is okay that you don't like it.. If it was for everyone the band would be a whole lot bigger ha

It's fine if people don't like this album, I couldnt care less who likes or dislikes anything, but when you have numerous people repeatedly proclaiming their adoration of it, comments like "I don't understand how people think this is above average" is irritating and very blatantly inflammatory. Read through any number of the posts I, CoffeeEyes, softanimal, KennedyBN, teebs41 and others have made and you can very clearly determine how and why this album has made such an impression.

Yeah, totally. Like, in the past, I've ranked albums I gave 8s to above albums I gave 9s to when it came time to compile an EOTY list. I'm just glad I don't even have to worry about that stuff anymore.

difference between having an opinion and talking down on others for theirs, especially when the opinion doesn't actually say anything about why he doesn't like something WHILE talking down others
