i love when people talk about weed or alcohol, and when folks talk about their depression and what ails them, and their victories and defeats with addiction, and everything in-between. it's specifically that discussion that allows me to get to know you and how to best speak to you and avoid hurting you. it also adds to the slow-rolling eternal snowball that is my perspective as a whole.

i know that this does not mean that all of it has a place in the thread - really, i don't think that everything does. but i do love it.

 

I agree with this, too, for the most part. But if we’re talking about things that make people uncomfortable and just the thread at large, considering it is still illegal in many places, I could see it being something for someone.

idk man like i wouldn't want to bring anybody else down because im being hard on myself but at the same time this is really my only outlet to vent stuff like that when i do feel that way. i guess i could be more graceful than "im dead inside" and i've made an effort to not be as open with stuff like that on here lately just for personal reasons but i do think this is a good tool for those who may be feeling down to express themselves safely

 

I think I've made it clear what we shouldn't talk about in here

- pooping, no one should ever talk about that
- despite being almost all dudes we're generally good about avoiding misogyny
- talking trash about other members who don't post here


It's tough with some stuff like the playful teasing I hope is never seen as not playful

i went to bat for this in another thread recently and got absolutely torn apart so im glad that you get it

 

I suppose, but it was also illegal for two gay people to marry until very recently and I think we can all agree here that gay marriage is something we should be able to discuss freely and if it makes someone uncomfortable then they can gtfo. I don’t think legalities that our specific country set up are cause to keep things off the table. If it’s something for someone then maybe they should explore that and try to figure out if it’s logical for it to be something at all, rather than just shut it down.

I mean, fair enough, I've definitely contributed to the weed talk and maybe it is excessive. I can keep it to the 420 thread if anyone has a legitimate problem with it, but I think Colby saying it gave him some perspective and James' point about the stigma behind it are also legitimate counterpoints. I don't think avoiding discomfort altogether is possible cause that's a part of interacting with others, but I do think avoiding not listening to people's feelings and being considerate of them is important. but like, stigma around self medicating aside, possible discomfort about pot aside (I say this bc I'm unsure if some of you are saying the discussion of it inherently makes you uncomfortable or if it's not knowing what's being discussed that's doing it) my quality of life is way better as a regular consumer as opposed to not consuming it and feeling little reason to exist and go about my day normally if I will feel no satisfaction from it. and this is me saying this to explain my perspective rather than make anyone feel bad or invalidate anyone elses thoughts. hope this makes sense and sorry for the double negatives that obfuscate clarity
