The Tattoo Thread

it's not too original but i'd like to get the gravestone from Slaughterhouse-Five on my inner bicep:


one of my favorite books, and one that informed a lot of what i think about violence. plus, there are a few ways i like to think about the quote itself: the naive way Billy wanted to think about his whole life, summing it all up as never hurting and always being beautiful; the cynical way we're inclined to think about in the face of horror, believing the only opportunity for peace and beauty comes with death; and the probable truth, that there are transient moments throughout life in which there is that beauty and peace, and knowing that they don't have to last forever to have an impact, just long enough for us to be able to see them in the span of time.

 

I'm currently trying to finalize a design that incorporates this stanza from the Prophecy of Aragorn and the White Tree of Gondor. Really wanting it on the right-side collarbone area, which is making the design more difficult than if I did it on the upper arm/shoulder area.

All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

 

Probably going to get my first this summer, it's going to be a bear in the mountains on my bicep.

 

I'm at the weird point where I want another but have no idea where to go with it or even where on me a tattoo would actually look good.

 

Currently have 5. The one above is definitely my favorite. I also have the typical Nautical Stars on my chest, as well as the Bayside symbol with lyrics and such on my side/ribs, and the 777 Underoath design on my leg(plan to get this one covered though).

That Frog Thor is dope! Good work too! Side note: I probably need to get my color touched up on mine someday, it's starting to look a wee bit faded.

 

I've got six done now. Only two proper designs, the others are text (Trouble Will Find Me and On The Impossible Past done in the font from their album covers and my siblings' birth dates.) Will try to post pics of my other two later.

 

Just got this one finished five days ago, basically just wanted the Movielife line and then a cool traditional design. Really happy with it.

My others are the blink logo on my shoulder, the Deja astronaut on my left bicep, Hylian crest from Zelda on my right bicep, and the Deathly Hallows from Harry Potter on my right forearm.

 

My wife and I are wanting to get something Harry Potter related as well, probably the Deathly Hallows and "I Solemnly Swear...I Am Up To No Good" or something along those lines.

 

even though it's my simplest/smallest tattoo, the Deathly Hallows definitely gets the most compliments. I mean, it's also the most visible since it's on my forearm, but it's cool talking to other HP fans since I love it so much haha, also cool when I see other people with a Deathly Hallows tattoo.

 

Definitely, I sometimes feel like that's super generic though ya know? Like it's a "cool" thing to do and other people get it for that reason and not because they actually know what it is haha. I don't know maybe that's just me lol.

I'd really like to get something on my forearm but i'm cognizant of the fact that I need a job and working as an accountant it's probably not wise, although I DO typically wear long sleeves so it likely wouldn't be THAT noticeable but still. I mean my dinosaur one will sometimes be visible under a short sleeve shirt and i'll get people that ask about it cuz they see how colorful it is, when i pull up my sleeve most people are shocked that Jesus is on the dinosaur hahahaha.

I do really want a 1/2 sleeve on my arm of something Batman related though.

I'll shut up now.

 

Still need to get my Harley/Ivy and Zatanna/Black Canary/Batgirl/Whoever leg tattoos. $$ tho.

Well hello fellow criminals, thugs, and drug dealers unable to ever find a proper job

I only have one tattoo at the moment, "God is love, love is real" on my chest, but plan on getting a family tree on my arm at some point in the future. I *really* want to get something a bit ridiculous related to my cats, but I haven't worked up the guts to do it just yet.

 

Not really worth a picture since it's simple text, but I have "keep calm" on my right arm and "carry on" on my left. Next tattoo is probably going to be a Roman numeral four (IV)

 

I have Princess Peach on my forearm. I love it, except she looks so sad. Haha.

 

Care to share the significance of IV? Always enjoy hearing stories.

 

She loves that Coheed album, probz.

 

I have a jigsaw puzzle piece on my neck (very intelligent first tattoo decision at 18 but at least it has a good purpose and has done good for me), my mom's initials on my right wrist, and the "Yevon" symbol from Final Fantasy X on my left ankle. All in black, hoping to get a color tattoo soon.

 

Fuck Yu Yevon. Lamest boss battle.

I appreciate a good FF tattoo though.

 

The whole Inside Sin arc was laughably easy. Crazy how they made Seymour III and Yunalesca so intricate and Sin/Seymour IV/BFA/Yu Yevon so...bland.

Got the tattoo mainly cuz of the role FFX played in my childhood and cuz my best friend was getting a DBZ one for the same reason so I figured I'd join him on it haha.

 

I hear ya. I've been looking at getting some iteration of the Phoenix summon on my ribs for fifteen years now. Likely something like this.

 

Be warned getting tattooed on the ribs hurts like a mother fucker
