Stuck In Evil Mode For 31 Days Prestigious

Heh I’ve always wanted to do a The Sword style band with these crazy catchy riffs and all that but the lyrics are like the nerdiest D&D shit ever, with each album covering a specific area of the earth based on the dragon that inhabits it.

    there’s a few exceptions... e.g. Blind Guardian I like

    but yeah, not my thing

Other than what I've posted about here before:

    Testament
    Megadeth post-1990
Inquisition (not that it matters now, but they would have been a prime candidate for that pre-revelation)
    Most power metal
    Chon

A few more I thought of while cleaning the litterboxes:

    Xibalba
    Trapped Under Ice
Most deathcore that isn't Despised Icon or Animosity
    Rings of Saturn
    Danzig

It's usually stuff like Iced Earth, Symphony X, Nevermore, etc for me.

I’ve heard so much praise for Nevermore lately but it never clicked with me. Jeff Lomis is a crazy good player though.

A lot of stuff like that and a lot of djent. Born of Osiris, Periphery, Animals as Leaders...all technically do some very interesting stuff but the songs never keep me interested beyond a surface level "this sounds cool"

I bloody loved Nevermore, I was so sad when Warrel died last year as I'd always hoped for a reunion. Imo Politics of Ecstasy, Dead Heart In a Dead World, Enemies of Reality and This Godless Endeavor are all outstanding albums. The rest of their stuff I find varies from good to great.

Countdown to Extinction is good, but it's where their material starts to take a nosedive for me in terms of quality. IDK.

Nevermore is another good example of a band that's good, but I could never get super into. Completely forgot about that one.

I think, to an extent, it’s Maiden for me. But I also have yet to take a deep dive into their material

AAL is a solid band but their albums kinda drag after a point for me.

Hell yeah one of my high school favorites that I still throw on every so often. Follow The Reaper was my jam. That section at 1:13 blew my mind when I was 17:

its obviously where the decline starts but to act like nothing after RIP is worth it when countdown was just two years after and extremely good in its own right is ignorant

Like I said, CTE is a well-made album, but the entire subject of this discussion is bands that you recognize as good and talent in their own right, but haven't been able to get into for some reason. Megadeth post-1990 fits that bill for me perfectly. Hell, most of the big 4 of thrash post-1992/1993 fits it, sans Slayer's God Hates Us All (that album just does it for me).

I definitely missed the Grave Upheaval release. I gave it a listen yesterday. The album sounds like an ancient Lovecraftian behemoth rising from the depths of the sea, shambling onto the shore, destroying everything in its ceaseless wake, and covering everything in a miasma of gloom and filth. You know the Sarlacc pit in Return of the Jedi and how it takes 1,000 slow years to digest you? This is what that albums sounds like.

Also finally listened to the Vastum/Spectral Voice split, which predictably slays.

Holy fuck, both of these things whip so much ass. Can't wait for the new Black Tusk record, and Sleep blessing us with a surprise new song like immediately after a surprise new LP is all kinds of wonderful ha.
