I used my absolutepunk name and I tried every number up until this one when I signed up on there. True story.

 

Where else would people talk about the band if I lock this thread?

 

Also, I literally turned the "Supporters Only Brand New Thread" into a chat thread for people in the supporter forum, I think getting mad at people talking about something just because of what thread it is in, is just not needed. Not every thread is on "topic" and is usually centered around people with a similar interest talking about anything. (ex)BN fans talking about stuff like their usernames and having a bonding experience doesn't bother me at all.

 

I was playing a little devil's advocate, but I think some would argue to lock the thread and reopen it when there is something deemed "relevant" to talk about. I worded that poorly in my original post though.

 

I don't know what is "relevant" for someone to talk about. Person X has some thoughts on the band they want to share on a random Tuesday shouldn't have to message me to unlock a thread and then have me re-lock it days later when they wanna talk about their personal journey with the band and the music.

 

I dunno, I think for me personally my issue is mostly how seriously uncomfortable I feel about:

1) Being personally and directly attacked out of nowhere yesterday for nothing more than joining several others in voicing my displeasure at what that Reptar user was saying in here; and then,

2) Somehow being made into the villain in the situation when something else I said in a completely unrelated context was blatantly and dishonestly mischaracterized; followed by,

3) A group of people suddenly appearing to load up the thread with off-topic jokes in order to change the subject from what was said both to me and about me.

So that's kind of where I'm coming from and I know nobody in here cares that that's how I feel, because it's me saying it, but that's my explanation for why I said the thread was weird on the last page.

 

Something about Brand New because it's fresh in my mind.

Yesterday would have been my friend Pat's 29th birthday. I say would have been because he died suddenly in 2008. I was with him in June 2003 the day Deja Entendu came out, and we went to Tower Records together to buy it. I remember that like it was yesterday. A lot of my memories of that record are tied up into sitting by the river in our town after high school days and fishing, never really catching anything but just talking and talking and talking with the music soundtracking the conversation. When he died, I put a Post-it note with the cover of Deja on the casket. After seeing a post from his brother and his picture on my fridge yesterday, I decided to give it a listen.

I don't really know where I'm going with this or what I'm trying to say, to be honest. Maybe that it felt good to listen to the music for 40 minutes—even if I was too embarrassed to scrobble it publicly—and focus on why it was important to me in the first place, somehow devoid of all the confusion and conflicting feelings, if only for this one very specific time.

 

Oh come on. I've read enough of your posts to know you didn't think Teebs was personally and directly attacking you as his stupid joke was not anywhere near as bad as other joke-posts I've seen you make and like toward other people. Your response back to him was far more of a personal attack than his dumb joke.

You've made multiple people in this thread, and others, uncomfortable multiple times by how you attack them. Your response at one point was that you didn't care if you made people uncomfortable. You are not being made into 'the villain' when someone explains what Teebs dumb joke was in reference to, by giving one recent example of people being made to feel bad about their tattoos ... even if it was "all good-ed" by one person after it happened.

Yes, sometimes it's better to have jokes and lighten the mood.

 

Yeah, it isn't sustainable. Either you leave it up and we talk in it, and people who don't want to see it get banned from the thread, or you lock it completely. I am for option 1.

 

You know how sub-posts work. And I was attacked for being a "Chorus.fm troll" when all I did was say that Reptar user was being toxic, something you yourself were also saying to that user on the same exact page earlier in the day. I responded in kind because I don't appreciate being talked to that way.

What I actually said at the time was I don't care if what I say about problematic bands (like Brand New), not about users, makes people uncomfortable. And as you are aware because you were in the Accountability thread that day, I took people's criticism to heart and understood/acknowledged why that was an ignorant position to hold in absolute. Also any time it has been brought to my attention I have made any user individually uncomfortable I have tried to listen to and apologize to them, including what happened in the 30STM thread weeks ago, if you recall. I am not above recognizing when I'm wrong and have demonstrated that several times in the past

Maybe so, but that doesn't mean my feelings aren't real or valid. And honestly I don't even know where this is coming from when it comes to you. Acting like I was trying to attack people for having Brand New tattoos when I was just (inarticulately) trying to express my sympathy at what that must feel like, and then when I was told what I was saying was problematic I immediately recognized that fact and apologized for it? That's not you, or at least I don't remember that being you when I first joined up here.

Anyway, this is your site man. If you want me to log off and stop bothering people I'll respect that. For the record I'm not trying to make you feel bad by saying this, I'm being serious. I can see that I'm not really welcome in a lot of discussions around here lately and I suppose that's on me. If you would prefer I make myself gone just say so and I will. I don't want to cause problems for anyone else anymore, for real.

 

Anytime I'm not welcome in a discussion, I just log off for awhile and browse music threads instead and consider my doubtlessly narrow opinions

Come on, you know what you do at times is trolling. I know you're smart enough to know this. And I know you're smart enough to not think the joke Teebs made was "attacking" you. Of course Reptar is awful. No one has said differently. The joke was that yeah, Reddit people coming here to stir up shit is bad, but it's also not great that people on this website stir up shit for people either. That comment was followed by a whole bunch of people ganging up on someone and "stirring shit" — the same group of people that have done this multiple times now.

No, what I said was that was a recent example I assumed was part of the reason Teebs made a joke about people on this website doing these things. It's one of many examples, it just happened to be the one I remembered most recently in this thread. Yes, it had a decent outcome after a back and forth with Drewski, but it still happened.

And you don't know where it comes from? Really? After the shit you've said and the posts you've liked? Like, I just don't believe you unless you think I'm blind and dumb.
