I'm glad everyone is digging Hurricane. That chorus though.

Yep definitely, but I think the vast majority are supportive of their development of their sound, as even though I love Artist it's not exactly unique, plenty of bands have done albums like that before...Vheissu is truly incredible and so glad they made it

  3. I definitely don't want to stereotype anyone, but I think this has a lot to do with the bands' respective fanbases at the time of each change. It doesn't exactly surprise me that huge fans of TAITA might resist that kind of artistic growth more than Radiohead fans would.

Yeah definitely, the fact OK Computer was a relative change in sound in itself while TAITA was more a continuation of a formula established and honed over the previous two albums could mean the Thrice fanbase was relatively established in expectation and so big fans would likely be turned off by Vheissu, but I was 7 when TAITA was released so not really sure what it was like at the time haha

Yeah, I think fans of the first few Thrice records, were mainly scene kids whereas Radiohead already had a different (possibly more accepting) audience.

That being said, I got into Thrice early on, and absolutely love everything they've done. Can't wait to get home and listen to this record.

Thrice are one of those bands that are super important to my musical growth. I was 14 when Vheissu came out, and was getting kind of bored with what that scene had, I was interesting in something more musically, but I didn't really know what. I didn't know where to look, or how to find more experimental/indie music. Then they released Vheissu and it was kind of like exactly what I needed, and then reading about their influences from that and what it sounds like introduced new things and it just spiraled into a new musical awakening (as cheesy as that sounds).

Thank you all for this discussion, listening to Vheissu for first time in a few weeks as a result and my god what an album

Thrice's progression has always been pretty natural imo.

We talk too much / We talk in circles

The transition from IC to IoS is more significant than people realize. Brian McTiernan has talked about this many times. Artist was definitely a sequel to IoS. I'm not saying you're not aware of this or anything.

Wake up is actually a pretty cool song.. I love the variety on this record.. Every song has a uniquely different sound

I agree and it's a disservice to TIOS to just cast it as a continuation of IC to be honest. It still seems somewhat more of a predictable step between those two than between Artist and Vheissu, as the latter kind of defines the later years of Thrice.

I dont know if this is an unpopular opinion here but I think about Identity Crisis in the same way I do Pablo Honey for Radiohead...

I love that this record feels like it's perfectly cut in half.. After the long defeat you feel like that's a closer and then you get honey after the interlude which feels like an opener, kind of brings you back to the alchemy index a little where the records were split in half.. Love it

I love the bass in the second verse of stay with me.. There is a lot to love about that song.. It's a pop song, but a damn good one

Their discography/career path is really quite spookily similar in many ways, can't believe I'm only just realising it haha

I would love if Thrice did a Kid A style full length too.
