I was wondering the same in the wake of Charles Wade's arrest

 

They're in those communities fighting against systemic racism, which is the bases for the violence in those communities. The above rhetoric is fictitious concern meant to redirect the responsibility for the conditions in our communities back on to us, rather than the society that produces and reproduces those conditions.

 

I'd tell them that civilian on civilian crime is not equivalent to police brutality.

 

I doubt anyone who says things like that would be willing to listen to any argument. Maybe just call out their ignorance and leave the discussion, there's no hope for them.

 

and give those people shit that they only care about black lives when they can use their deaths as a tool to criticize BLM. it's the same with people who only care about rape victims when they can use it to spread anti-refugee rhetoric in Europe. there's not an ounce of actual care for their well-being, it's just a tool to say "ha got you!" to feminism/race activism/etc.

 

Is the comparison of anti-transgender legislature comparable to that of Jim Crow laws?

I fought for civil rights. It is offensive to compare it with the transgender fight.

Let us be clear: HB2 cannot be compared to the injustice of Jim Crow. In fact, it is insulting to liken African Americans’ continuing struggle for equality in America to the liberals’ attempt to alter society’s accepted norms.

Outpouring of sympathy and solidarity? No, just the usual hundreds of comments from middle-aged and elderly white people who have never lived in St. Louis and never witnessed the (lack of cognizable) racial tension here making comments of the "why aren't they protesting?," "they only care when it's a police officer doing the killing," and the sardonic "#black lives matter" variety. Yet they have no idea that black-white racial tensions are basically null in St. Louis despite the horribly (even within the already horrible national context) racial history of the city, still one of the very most segregated in the country, and that, if you go to an impoverished North City neighborhood, half of the houses have yard signs or windows signs begging an end to violence and preaching solidarity, and if you go to the same areas' churches, you'll hear regular conversations on the topics of intraracial crime. I shit you not, you will not hear explicit racism from just about anyone who actually lives in the city except for St. Louis cops, who I generally assume to be shit bags anyways. I fucking hate rural whites who live in news station proximity of urban areas who think themselves sociologists because they watch the evening news. They are our aunts, uncles, and grandparents. And their purge from this world would be every bit the benefit of that of the murderers and vandals that they decry.

Black patients diagnosed with liver cancer were more likely to die and less likely to receive lifesaving transplants than white patients, researchers reported Monday.

The disparities are so great that race alone is the biggest predictor of who is likely to die from liver cancer, the researchers told a big conference in San Diego called Digestive Disease Week.

I read tons of articles like this both from media and scientific sources. What is frightening is the shear number of my physician colleagues who will see this and instantly think "well, it must be due to something inherent in blacks" as opposed to "well, it must be our racist infrastructure keeping them from accessing adequate healthcare"

I remember catching a part of a Chinese comedy film in which blackface was used throughout, and the movie came out really recently. Couldn't believe it.

I can't speak for East Asians but for south Asians and Indians, anti black and anti Hispanic racism are key to being more western, which, thanks to colonization, is the goal of every brown person in the US. Remember as a kid my parents forbidding me from having black friends and that any girl that wore revealing clothing was "a Spanish".
