You know what, I will go ahead and give this an entire spin, finish out the rest of the songs. Maybe I'm wrong.

The albums that have hit me hardest over the years lyrically are usually the ones that are more to the point and less rooted in metaphors. It's cool that people would be more into the latter, but it definitely doesn't make them better or more important.

Alright, just finished every minute of this thing.

This is pure synth-pop. The only song that sounds even remotely similar to Threads is SGL. I cannot for the life of me hear any rock influences at all aside from the title track, and Set It Free.

This isn't a bad pop album though, not by a long stretch. And it's not generic either. I stand corrected there.

Quite enjoyed the harmonies on Holy Water and Yours.

Damn I can’t wait to listen to this album. Thread has been heated. Loved Threads, and loved all the singles so I’m sure I’ll adore this.

The "starry eyed" bit in SGL sounds extremely Threadsy to me in terms of the melody. AZ too but more in terms of the echoey vocals than the tune. Can't wait to cop this shit tomorrow, yo.

Pretty much every song has some sick guitar parts and not every drum sound is programmed, quite a bit of acoustic drums on this thing. They're using some of the tools of rock music to make their pop music. The synths are heavy and at the forefront but synths were literally all the fuck over threads so?? I don't see how this album could be seen as unprecedented coming from this band

Like the lead instrument in a fair amount of threads songs is a synth. Wolf, separate rooms

The funny thing about it is that I wished Threads was more synth-heavy like Wolf for a while.

  20. Threads was a really important record to me. Magnet will probably always be one of my favorite songs

  21. Balance and Composure got me into them by dropping their name in an Audiotree session right after Threads came out. Was immediately hooked

So Threads is one of my top 5 records of all time. It came at a very turbulent time in my life where I was going off the rails so to speak and the record literally saved me from myself if that makes sense.

I do like this new record but do I wish they released a follow up that sounded a little closer to Threads? Of course. I’ve said it before but the first three songs on From Indian Lakes- Everything Feels Better Now sounds exactly like what I expected the follow up to Threads would sound like. I would LOVE a record with songs like that.

With that said- if that’s not where Cacie and Brad are at then I can’t fault them for writing what makes them happy. I also wouldn’t want them to release something just to please fans cause they would probably break up right after anyways.

P.S. I miss Jess too but it was painfully obvious yearssssss ago that she wasn’t sticking around. I never saw a single post with Jess during the writing of the new record and I straight up stalked their social media for years waiting on any song clip.

Speaking of Audiotree, Jess says one of her favorite albums is The End of History by Fionn Regan in Now, Now’s session. I couldn’t recommend that album more.

Structure wise it really isn’t. The chords and vocals are similar but the sonic space is very different. Still know how to write great 4 bar hooks
