baptism cancelled unfortunately, but the lineup is still stacked. there's a lot of conflicts in the schedule i've been trying to sort through. i'm unfortunately probably going to skip bolzer and god dethroned among others just because there are so many good bands playing...it's a good problem to have.

I finally passed on the Northwest Terror Fest tickets last night. There's only one day's worth of bands I'm super interested in (Gatecreeper/Integrity/Full of Hell/Necrot/Wild Hunt) and I don't feel like spending $30 on it lol

Already on my schedule. :) I wouldn't miss them since they never make it across the pond.

That lineup is worth $30 and then some to me...hell, Integrity alone was *checks* $25 last time they came to Chicago with Temple of Void and local support. Add on Gatecreeper, Full of Hell, and Necrot on to that and I'd shell out some gnarly dough for that show.

I'm already pissed enough that I'm missing Gatecreeper and Full of Hell when they're coming to town next month, but I can't pass up a chance to see Celeste and Infernal Coil when I haven't seen either band before. *sigh*

The new At The Gates slaps hard. It's so much better than At War With Reality upon first listen.

I guess it's bc I've already seen Full of Hell and Gatecreeper and I dropped $$ for the Power Trip and Now, Now shows.

Also I skipped Nile last week dammit

fair. especially because the Power Trip tour line-up is stacked from top to bottom. Red Death, Fury, and Sheer Mag all bring it hard. saturday cannot get here soon enough.

To celebrate my back patch, here's In The Sign of Evil in its entirety:

And here's a sick song from an album from an Austrian thrash band coming out next Friday. FFO Kreator:

And a classic from an underrated band's 1984 debut. Thrashes hard even though it's intstrumental:

Absu, Destroyer 666 (dude is a huge asshole tho), Nifelheim, Nekromantheon, Nocturnal Graves (has an album that came out 2 weeks ago). As for the earliest of early black/thrash, old Sodom, Hellhammer, Bathory, Vulcano, Venom, and Celtic Frost are great, even if they are on the speed side of things too.

EDIT somehow forgot about Condor, Norwegian thrash band that released one of my favorite albums last year:

Other black/thrash bands that released stuff in 2017: Witchery, Daeva, Hellripper, Urn, and Craven Idol.

EDIT EDIT this article is from last year, but it's a good read. Aura Noir is the first band on the list:

going back through things I didn't give enough time last year. The Crowning Quietus by Inconcessus Lux Lucis is an incredible album. Black metal from the UK with trad influences. It's an awesome marriage of the two styles.

If nothing else, listen to the last track and pay attention to the 4:20ish mark.

I was listening to the Labeled podcast the other day about the guys from Zao. They were kicked out of their church early on because the church was convinced that the only way Dan Weyandt could make "those sounds" was because he was possessed by a demon.

In today's edition of old releases from 2017 that swboyd visits instead of listening to new music, I present Rope Sect - Personae Ingratae:

They play an awesome blend of death rock and post-punk FFO of Ghost, Grave Pleasures, sacreligiosity.
