I think the lyrics for "Black Honey" make it hard for me to really take seriously. "Wake Up" and "The Long Defeat" both kind of bored me, especially the former.

When Major/Minor was released, I was enrolled in an art class for university. For the final project, I chose to do a painting based on "Call It in the Air". Obviously it didn't turn out well because I have zero talent. My professor compared it to Basquiat. Looking back at it, I think it was shade towards him. All I know is I have been waiting five years to do a retry at honoring Thrice like they deserve. I can't wait to press play on this.

Stay With Me through the end is a better stretch than some bands manage in their entire careers. I'm so ridiculously happy right now.

Y'all brought the hype train for the closer and even though the song is definitely the stuff I love, it's just okay for me.

It's better to listen to an album first without anyone elses opinions floating around in your head imo.

I understand it's a little reductive to purely compare it to Fire; but it's hard to argue that is the biggest influence here in terms of sound. It veers to air and water here and there, but a lot of it wouldn't sound out of place on that Fire EP.

    "Whistleblower"'s cool.

The clip of Whistleblower sounds a lot like Of Dust and Nations

  20. I would argue against that on both that it's the biggest influence and that a lot of it would fit on that EP. The combination of sounds is what has made the last three albums Thrice. And this is definitely a combination of all four "elements."

Been lurking for a while and decided to sign up to chat with ya'll...

If they would have put out Hurricane and Salt and Shadow alone as a two-song EP, I'd be ecstatic. That's how good they are.

I'm currently torn on the rest. I came into this album with ridiculously high expectations, so that might play into it, but I was hoping for a little more experimentation and changes in tempo. Blood sounds better in the context of the full album, and The Window is legit on the second listen. It's that middle chunk of Wake Up/The Long Defeat/Seneca that just isn't grabbing me yet. And with Wake Up, it's more the lyrics than anything else. The groove is nice.

That said, Thrice always grows on me and you can't judge after one listen. This will still be better than 90% of what I listen to this year. Welcome back, gents.

I disagree, majority of this album wouldn't fit into the Fire EP. Specifically, Hurricane, Salt and Shadow, Stay With Me, Black Honey, Blood on the Sand, The Long Defeat, Whistleblower.

I mean it's been years since I've heard those elemental EPs but this doesn't seem hard enough to fit into Fire...I could be mistaken though.

    Closer was nice.

Overall I like most of it. A couple of songs I really liked and a few I wasn't into. Pretty much how I am with most Thrice stuff, ha.

I'm really loving this so far. It aint no Illusion but most things arent. It sounds like Thrice but theres still a progression in these songs and the production just sounds really nice and clear. Dont hear the Fire EP comparison too much, none of these songs have been THAT heavy or aggressive, but theres definitely some Water and Air in here.
