    I do not exist.

So the remnants of Showbread formed a new band called The Bell Jar. They've written an album but they're going down an unconventional route in that if enough people don't pre-order the album they will destroy the masters and it will literally cease to exist. They will then refund everyone who did pre-order. Fair enough. It's like extreme crowd-funding or something like that!

The album is called I Infest, Therefore I Am.

    Preorder the album here.

The song they've released actually sounds really good so I'm hoping they get enough money together to finish this album off. It's $10 and you get a refund if it doesn't get finished - come on everyone!

Josh sounds great, the synths make it sound interesting and I enjoyed the female vocals.

    stoked on this.

had been meaning to post Josh's interview on the Your Favorite Band podcast where he said they were trying to decide how to release it. I had started to give up hope on the band ever actually surfacing, I thought maybe they had just turned their recording sessions they had posted into either the final Showbread album or Church of Agony's release.

Have their been any good "christian" releases this year? I feel like it's been pretty quite this year in that regard.

Dang the album cover is crazy haha. The song was... interesting. I liked that latter half better when the female vocals were more prominent.

By Christian, are we talking about specific worship / Christian themed albums?

I'd say that there have been three that fit into that category for me that I have really enjoyed:

Jason Upton - A Table Full of Strangers vol.2
    Samuel Lane - The Difference
    Audrey Assad - Evergreen

They're all slightly more creative than your standard CCM release though.

I desperately wanted to like Steffany Gretzinger's new album but I've found it to be a bit boring on the whole. Which is a shame because I love the title track which she released as a single.

On the contrary, I feel like it’s been exceptionally strong so far. Levi the Poet, Andrew Peterson, My Epic, Jackie Hill Perry, Sandra McCracken, Rend Collective, and Andrew Osenga are all some of my favorite releases thus far this year. Andy Gullahorn put out an unfinished, acoustic version of his record that’s coming out later this year and it’s great too.

I’ve also heard good things about the Mark Lee Townsend album but haven’t given it a good listen yet.

And I’m a huge fan of the new Underoath record too—oh wait.

Yeah not necessarily worship, but rather that the artist identifies as a Christian. Out of those three which one do you enjoy the most?

Oh yeah I totally forgot about about Andrew Peterson and My Epic haha. AP was really good and My Epic was decent.. I don't follow anybody else you mentioned though besides Underoath, but.. ya know.

Crap I still need to listen to Mark Lee Townsend's too, but it's over an hour long I think so I've been pushing it back haha.

    The rivalry is back on

The instrumental Future of Forestry album from earlier this year is great (as always)

As a whole, not much has clicked with me yet this year though. If anyone has any recs in the MuteMath, Paper Route, Colony House, etc wheelhouse, Id love to hear them!

Oh yeah, I’d definitely echo the My Epic and Levi the Poet love. I’d also throw in Listener and The Oh Hellos.

Favourite of the three above is the Jason Upton album. The lyrics are creative and the style is just so relaxing.

Tooth & Nail have pressed Dead Poetic's New Medicines to vinyl for the first time. Two variants - coke bottle clear and translucent red. There are 500 of each.

I wasn't aware of the new Future of Forestry album. Just listening now and it's pretty gorgeous.

I ended up listening to both Jason Upton and Audrey Assad. Jason Upton was really good, maybe a little long, but like you said it's relaxing and even the spoken word was good (Redwoods and Daisies).

Audrey Assad was decent, but definitely not my cup of tea. At least not for a whole album, it started to drag a lot for me. She has some pretty good lyrics though

The other week I listened to Vitals and Play Dead, gosh I love MuteMath so much.

Here's a single from a band my friend showed me off some Indie "Christian" playlist. Really love this song and I think it somewhat fits the recs you mentioned. The catch is the song is in Portuguese haha

Is Josh Dies still into the Open Theism thing?

No idea but I’m guessing he’s still not into Calvinism.

A couple of exciting things on the horizon for John Mark McMillan fans...

That's fair. I actually decided to go back and reread his blog form when the whole John Piper thing happened and it came off farm more of "I'm against Calvinism" more than "I'm for Open Theism." To be fair, he gave a pretty caricatured representation of Calvinism. I feel like he's one of those dudes who I would either LOVE to sit down and talk theology with or hate it, there wouldn't be much in between.

    Fight the long defeat.

Bit of a reach here, but does anyone in this thread listen to Andy Squyres? Bought his last record Cherry Blossoms on a whim, and his lyrics are excellent. Notably, he's also in the midst of a funding campaign for another album to be released this fall.

I saw a few artists I like championing his crowdfunder. It might be time to check him out. What style is it? Are the lyrics spiritually themed or something else?

    Fight the long defeat.

John Mark McMillan's persistent Twitter mentions pushed me over the edge to give this one a listen.

It's mostly restrained singer-songwriter tunes, but I can hear the influence on JMM's last album, both musically and lyrically. Comparisons to Josh Garrels and even a little Bon Iver are fair, too, I think. Really beautiful stuff.

The latest JFH podcast with Levi the Poet is fantastic. Brilliant and insightful. They talk about mewithoutYou’s Brother, Sister and then Cataracts, as well as faith and deconstruction. It’s a great listen. Well done @Chase Tremaine

I need to check him out then!
