I don't necessarily think songs not as good as the peak are a bad thing in an album. the excess is cool to a point and I think they stopped before it got to be too much. double albums aporoximating 90 minutes hit a decent sweet spot imo. Daydream Nation is another that I think is perfect length. Summertime 06 is the rate double album where I actually want more songs

Not a big fan of early Beatles. Everything up until Revolver has some dope tracks and some duds.

 

they had some riffs and the 4 way melodies. Id hesitate to call it too simple really.

 

I never got into Zeppelin and it's probably way too late for me

 

I didn't really until the discography hit Spotify a couple years ago

 

I like early Beatles and Beach Boys in the same way I like The Smiths. Theyre not far removed from one another musically.

yeah, early Beatles is a band learning how to play their instruments p much, but loaded with enough intelligence to make the simplicity work in an engaging way ~most of the time

nah, I'm really only recently getting really into them despite having enough passing familiarity with their stuff to get by in conversation before. I just check back periodically with bands I wanna get into. like, every few months I check to see if I like Matt Pryor's voice so I can love the Get Up Kids too

yeah, cool ideas but not always with the experience to pull them off. most come off more boring than offensively bad tho (imo boring is worse)

this is a really good post also I often think of the beach boys as foils of each other. they accomplish a lot of the same things through radically different approaches. like Brian Wilson admitting that his way of approximating the ideas that allowed the Beatles simplicity to gel so beautifully was to write a song on the piano with like 32 separate inversions

kinda agree more and more as I get older that art is theft. not necessarily literal
