yup. origins edition is useless for me since I have no other Blizzard games. Last Blizzard product I owned was Starcraft. Purchased in 1998.

alright, i'm not convinced Dark Souls really deserves all of the (gameplay) praise it gets.

artistically, gorgeous. i love the themes, the way they and the story are presented, the setting and sense of world... but I'm not convinced - and maybe it's because my rig can barely churn it out at 15 fps - that (at least in the very early game, ie Undead Burg) the placement of bonfires is smart at all. yes, i can slog through these enemies over and over again just to get to the boss that I'm trying to beat, or yes, i can (sometimes) run past them all, but neither of those are really, well, good designs. I work full time and I'm taking classes, I (sadly) simply don't have time to do this - and that's not a dig at people who can take the time out to do it, nor do i think it's even a declaration that i'm a "casual" gamer (not that i like that term anyway) - but when people say this game respects the player, i frankly don't think i can agree. not having a pause menu, bloating out gameplay with time-consuming, repetitive minion fights occupying the space between you and the actual gameplay section you are trying to beat at the moment - those aren't respectful of the player in any way.

i'm salty because i REALLY want to not just LIKE this game, i want to PLAY it. the tiny glimpse i've gotten seems incredibly interesting and unique. but so far 80% of my time in the past two hours have been spent on the same fourteen enemies before then dying to the boss. I die before i crack even 5% of that boss' health, but that's fine: if i could then spend my time learning how to fight that boss better instead of fighting other enemies i already pretty much know how to fight.

god damn it.

 

I think most games would be miserable trying to play at 15FPS

If you have a gpu made within the last 5 years you should be able to run Overwatch perfectly, it's a well optimized game.

 

I think you are doing fine. Dying many times and getting frustrated when you did something stupid and died on some easy enemy are typical. Keep it up, you will get there. The whole 15 fps...that just plain sucks.

 

Thinking I might have to get a mic for Overwatch. I can feel myself getting deep into it.

 

A Square JRPG that states the battle system is inspired by Chrono Trigger? Uh yeah, my body is ready.

 

it's not even unforgiving difficulty and lots of deaths - i'm fine with that. some of my favorite games are super difficult and unforgiving, like Binding of Isaac and Hotline Miami. my problem is that those games then immediately let you back into the meat of the action or keep things fresh with randomization, but Dark Souls does neither. it's Sisyphean, and some people will say that's why it's good, but i would rather just be let immediately at the boss who can crush me to bits immediately. instead, i'm forced to sit through the same sets of enemies, only to come to the boss, die, and then repeat this process. learning the boss, or the enemies, is difficult and fun, and fighting them is difficult and fun - unless it's just a way for me to kill time until i get to the actual challenging thing i want to do.

 

His looks to be a mobile laptop gpu though.

I hear you. Maybe the game is not for you. I would say give yourself time with it and take a break. You may come to appreciate it more with a little bit of distance.

Even still, Overwatch doesn't have the beefiest of requirements.

 

Have you looked at any walkthroughs? I don't remember that area well so I can't say for sure, but a lot of bosses have shortcuts, whether it be kicking a ladder down, unlocking a door, or finding a hidden bonfire. I know a lot of people would say using a walkthrough ruins the fun but I like to use them at the beginning of games sometimes so I can understand how they use their secrets.

 

Battleborn $20 off this weekend. Someone convince me to spend $80 on this and Overwatch as a graduation present to myself with the money that I'll surely be getting at my party this Saturday.

Battleborn is a game that is going to be dead by the end of the year. Just poor timing, and not nearly good enough to attract enough users

 

This mission in Doom where you scale the tower is so frustrating. I keep falling.

 

I thought it was confusing at first but the path becomes obvious pretty quickly.
