They quickly developed a horrible /mu/ fandom, but what do you expect for a group formed on KTT.

The Ameer news is very unfortunate.

Ameer reactivated his Twitter. Just him, none of the other members, so my guess is he’ll be making a statement sooner rather than later. I seriously doubt anything he says will change anything, even if he left the band (highly, highly doubt that), they still knew about it, so...idk. Kinda thinking out loud.

    Keep on moving. Busy street.

"Apology" thread. Leaves a lot to be desired imo.

Edit: This is everything he's tweeted:

"I am sorry to the people I've hurt and the fans I've disappointed."

"I've been in relationships where I've fucked up and disrespected my partners. I've cheated and been dismissive to my exes. Throughout the past 3 years I've been working hard to reflect on myself and seek out help. It continues to be a learning process every day."

"In response to the claims of emotional and sexual abuse: although my behavior has been selfish, childish, and unkind, I have never criminally harmed anyone or disrespected their boundaries. I have never had relations with a minor or violated anybody's consent."

"I'm sorry for cheating. I'm sorry for lying and letting my friends down. I'm sorry for placing my group mates in a difficult situation by not speaking to them about my past experiences earlier. I always hoped to set a good example to my fans."

"Apologies aren't enough. I really hope I can be an example of somebody who learned to grow from his mistakes and become a better person."

What’s the process for selling tickets from TicketFly? I’ve never sold tickets, I was already thinking about not going and now I’m sure I’m not.

    Just a friendly reminder

This whole topic makes me nauseous. I've been emotionally abused in the past and, regrettably, was emotionally abusive in a past relationship. My gut reaction is to hope that Ameer is serious when he apologizes and honestly tries to make amends. I hope the other members have grown up from when they were teenagers and have the guts to speak up to their friend. I take some solace in knowing that he was 18 at the time that he cheated with a high school girl in order to distract myself from the nausea and bad memories. People are fucked up and broken and what little hope I have in people makes me believe that they can recognize their mistakes, grow, and be better like I had to and like I hope the people that severely fucked with my head had.

I want to believe in growth and redemption.

But I know it's more complicated than that...

Shouldn’t this get cross posted to the accountability thread? Feels like that thread is just for pop punk sometimes

  21. I was so upset and angry and disappointed this morning, but almost nothing is surprising anymore, which is truly depressing. Extremely brave of the victims to come forward right as this band is at the height of their popularity. I guess we'll see how this is all handled. I want to believe they are capable of doing the right thing, but as of right now, I just feel drained and have almost no interest left in new music or the Pittsburgh show.

I’m still kind of parsing my thoughts on this because this situation feels somewhat more complex than with other bands. I think myself and a lot of other fans were led to believe that Brockhampton were a lot more feminist than they truly are. A lot of people point to Matt’s verse on JUNKY which tbh I always thought was pretty juvenile, but at least it was something. I can count on one hand rappers/rap groups that actually address the way men treat women, and one of those rappers beat women behind closed doors. Brockhampton is also part of my generation, and they have far more access to women’s voices than previous generations had, so I just thought they’d know better. I’d feel a lot better if they addressed this as a group, but instead their silence makes it out to be Ameer’s personal problem, while their prior knowledge of these allegations reflects on them as a group. I also feel like given how young their audience demo is, a lot of the women and girls who supported this band felt safe and respected listening to hip hop for likely the first time, myself included to an extent, and the way they’ve handled this ruins that. It’s a damn shame.

All that said, I’ll still listen to the new stuff. I’m not gonna “cancel” BH over this (as serious as it is) when I’m still listening to Thugger and Carti. Maybe that’s morally wrong of me, but I’ve put up with so much that disgusts me just so I can keep listening to hip hop, cause I do love the genre that much. Honestly though...fucking sucks being a hip hop fan.

yeah, i've been thinking a lot about how to handle abuse/behavior in hip hop more and more these days. since i know there are more environmental variables in the mix than for rock music. it's tough, i don't know what to do yet

This one is really complicated for me because BH/Kevin is really the only prominent LGBT voice in hip hop (I know there are others but not with the same reach, especially with such a young audience). I'd really hate to see his voice shut down, but at the same time that obviously doesn't excuse watching your friend treat people like this. So idk I'm going to just kind of sit back, listen, and I guess see how this plays out it sucks though
