and just to be fucking incendiary (no new friends), here's same trailer w added rationale

silver lining (my personal fave song of hers; so clever lyrically, killer vocals and that pedal steel is so effective)
my house (best hook "any KOA is A-OK...", not to mention such a seamless bridge and outro)
step off (peak lyrical cleverness, stellar hook, successful barroom shuffle, the banjo saunter is very nice)
follow yr arrow (these melodies with vapid lyrics would be passable, but of course she drives a message home with grace)

merry go round (tbh the lyrics on this are a bit much for me, but the melody's undeniable & the banjo/snare combo *swoon*)
keep it to yourself (a couple really nice melodies, but it feels small, somewhat repetitive, could use a C part)
i miss you (the half-step climbs on this one make the vocals to die for, but its attempt at quasi-island vibe doesn't work imo)
blowin' smoke (i love the overall swagger on this track, but i feel like it doesn't come into its own until the second half)

dandelion (some good moments in this one, but it's always felt a bit wooden and clunky, relatively uninspired vocals)
it is what it is (the chord progression in the hook is undeniable, but the pedal steel and almost-traditional vibe lose me pretty completely here)
back on the map (there's a good song in here, solid hook, but swap that banjo 4 a piano, less drums, speed it up a bit)
stupid (fun message in the lyrics, but the structure is pretty unoriginal, doesn't seem to click the way some tracks do here)

 

It Is What It Is and I Miss You are favorites for me. Both so good

 

ultimately doesn’t matter, but that video is pretty bad!

 

bleh didnt like this album at all. it was such a slog to get through. not into it.

catching up on the last page and damn i guess she's not much like kacey but how did no one rec lydia loveless!!!!

 

anyway this is near the top of my list for favs this year, i love how it has this huge pop production but at its core it feels a lot like an indie folk album, really intimate and adventurous. i get serious sufjan influence in the arrangements all over this thing

 

Probably something there - fairly certain Shania Twain and Sheryl Crow are two artists Brad & Cacie talk about, as well as the fact they like Kacey too. Can imagine those sort of sensibilities slipping into their music because of that, even if only in very subtle ways.

 

I listen to this usually once a day. Sometimes multiple times a day. It's just so perfect.

 

I really just tried for about a half hour to rank the songs and I just can't. I love them all so much. I guess Velvet Elvis and Wonder Woman would be towards the bottom. But I love those as well

I’d bump “Slow Burn” up and put “Love is a Wild Thing” at the top, but this is pretty close to mine otherwise.

 

This is a beautiful album - Would be a 10 if Wonder Women (and maybe Velvet Elvis) weren't on it

 

Uhhhh those are two of my favorites, especially Velvet Elvis.
