I noticed that the crowdsurfing/rowdiness stuck to the right side of the room for the entire show which I was really happy about since I was able to enjoy TWY up close on the left side without having to worry about crowd surfers the whole time.

I don't know if people know this but I Don't Like Who I Was Then has been their most popular song on Spotify pretty much since the release of NCTH despite (as far as I can remember) not being a single. In fact it's the only TWY song in their Spotify top 5 to survive Sister Cities.

It also has significantly more plays on the official album stream on Youtube than any song without a music video.

I suspect it's going to be in their setlist for a while.

TWY crowds are kind of a pain usually, but this tour in the UK was more manageable, apart from those dudes who insisted on surfing during quiet emotional songs to the point I had to yank one by the hair and give him a strong talking to for them to stop bothering the people around them trying to have a good time. Also what kind of asshole decides to go up for a song like Ocean? Cider-drunk teens are something.
Apart from that shitshow I remember the NCTH shows being thoroughly unpleasant, and this was more to my liking.

I wish they'd swap out Thanks For The Ride for Local Man. It's an alright song with a kick live but I don't think anyone cares as much for it than they do Local Man. I'm okay with Don't Like Who staying. One of my favourites.

I think Thanks For The Ride is fine but I would like to see another deep cut instead

I just want them to play Woke Up Older again lol

I'd really like to see Hoodie Weather once but this is wishful thinking at best

Yeah I like it a lot but I'd swap out Thanks For the Ride for any number of other songs. Local Man, Hoodie Weather, Teenage Parents, I Wanted So Badly to Be Brave, Palm Reader, Washington Square Park would all be great instead.

  8. I really want to hear American Religion (FSF). Song just seems so fun in a live setting, and Logan Circle for the same reason. Also would love to hear Funeral because epic.

Does Soupy still do that thing with his voice when he sings the line "you drove me all the way back" at the end of that song

I didn't even notice or care that Local Man wasn't in the set. Personally could do without it. That song hasn't aged well in my opinion, it just comes off as cheesy to me now.

Let's talk about the real crime on hand - Came Out Swinging being in the middle of the set.

  13. You haven't heard Funeral live? Crazy. Since the TGG era, I think I've heard them perform it 3-4 different times on separate tours.

This drives me crazy! I don't understand why like none of them are

Me neither. Only explanation I can think of is it drives more listeners to streaming sites where numbers contribute to equivalent sales. Hope the rest go on YouTube soon though.

Any song with a line about wanting to be a great white hope is probably best permanently retired.

Think what you want but every pop punk kid I knew idolized the band after The Upsides. Local Man seemed like (and kind of still does) a very true reaction to that.

That doesn’t have anything to do with that line being really, really awful.

I don't see why that line is so bad? It is just referring to the play.

That phrase comes from white people putting their hopes on white boxers to defeat black men who were winning and enraging them. Whether it’s a reference or not, it’s not something you want to paint yourself as. I’ve always liked the rest of the song but that line is really regrettable.

This may have already been discussed but surely I'm not the only one who finds Soupy's voice breaks/squeaks a LOT more on this record than previously. He has some great moments vocally but that inflection is distracting to me.

Joke's on you, I'm a sucker for the squeaks and creaks. I relish in this album. It's peak.

If that's your thing this is definitely the album for you haha. I still like the album a lot. It's just so much more pronounced than previously it must have either been a conscious decision on Soupy's part or a production choice where perhaps the squeaks had been sanded off on previous albums.

probably because he’s trying to actually sing better but his voice naturally isn’t good enough to handle it at times. pluses and minuses
